Student answer (Band 4.5)

In recent years many people build houses rather than to build appartments. It is often argued that while some people believe that this is beneficial. I completely agree with this statement. This essay will explain the reasons for my position. One primary reason why I believe that homes in large cities it is beneficial for it. The major advantage of that is enviornment you can live in the your own choice there will be no problem to live in the house. You can make gardens and pools in the house whatever you want to do in the house its your choice. The houses will be provide more facilities such as enviornment, park , community areas etc,. The major drawback of living in the appartment you will be restricted to live in the house and your mental conditions will be destroy to live in one small house. In houses the major factor had privacy. Privacy is the most crucial factor to live in a large houses because you live your own choices and anyone have no put the limitations.

Another factor is that financial budget the house will be less financed rather than appartments. The appartments accomodation will be high and it will be installed lift and raise prices from people.Too many tall blocks in one zone can overload local roads, water systems, and parking. In appartments there will be no privacy for instance sharing walls and roof can lead to noise and lack of privacy.

Consequently,I firmly believe that homes in large cities had more beneficial rather appartments blocks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the prompt minimally, focusing on the advantages of living in houses rather than tall apartment blocks, which aligns with a partial treatment of the topic. The position of the writer is stated in the introduction, but the development of ideas remains limited and repetitive. Throughout the essay, points such as privacy, financial aspects, and environmental freedom are introduced but stay underdeveloped, with frequent contradictions or unclear reasoning, such as claiming houses have less finance rather than apartments. Furthermore, some arguments conflate the prompt's focus on tall apartment blocks with general house living. To move beyond this level, the writer needs to ensure all parts of the task are addressed with fully extended and supported ideas, avoiding vague generalisations and maintaining a clear, consistent focus on the prompt throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The organisation of the essay shows some basic elements of structure, such as an attempt at an introduction and a conclusion, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is handled poorly; the main body is grouped into very dense blocks where multiple distinct ideas are crammed together without logical transitions. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or inaccurately, with abrupt shifts between sentences, such as jumping from environmental benefits to mental health and privacy within the same section. Referencing is also frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical development of the argument. To achieve a higher level, the writer must ensure that each paragraph has a single clear central topic, ideas are logically sequenced with appropriate cohesive markers, and paragraphing is used purposefully to structure the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple words and phrases such as 'house', 'appartment', 'live', and 'major'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'appartments', 'enviornment', and 'financed', which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and strain comprehension. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, with limited attempts to use less common lexical items. When less familiar terms are attempted, they are often used inaccurately, as seen in phrases like 'mental conditions will be destroy' or 'installed lift and raise prices'. To improve, the writer should expand their lexical repertoire by incorporating a wider range of precise vocabulary and less common collocations, while paying closer attention to word forms and correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures used are very limited, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that are heavily flawed. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'many people build houses rather than to build', 'homes in large cities it is beneficial', and 'anyone have no put the limitations'. Punctuation is also problematic, leading to run-on sentences and fragmented clauses that impede communication at times. The high frequency of grammatical errors distorts meaning and restricts the text to a basic range of structures. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence patterns, ensure correct subject-verb agreement and article usage, and construct complex sentences with greater accuracy.
