Student answer (Band 5.5)

NOWADAYS, ACCOMODATION IS ONE OF THE MAJOR PROBLEM OF THE EVERY BIG CITY. A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE TRANSFER FROM RURAL AREA TO URBAN AREA BECAUSE OF MORE OPPORTUNITIES. I BELIEVE THAT TO PREVENT THIS SITUATION BUILD TALL APARTMENT BLOCK IS ONE OF THE BEST OPTION. HOWEVER, THERE ARE SOME ISSUES WHICH PEOPLE MAY FACE DUE TO THIS DEVELOPMENT.

SOME PEOPLE HAVE AN OPINION THAT BUILD TALL APARTMENT IS THE BEST OPTION TO AVOID ACCOMODATION PROBLM. IN RECENT YEARS, PEOPLE ARE MOVING TO CITIES FOR BETTER OPPRTUNITIES, SUCH AS CARRIER, EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND LIFESTYLE. BECAUSE OF THIS, PEOPLE MAY FACE PROBLEM RELEATED TO ACCOMODATION. SOMETIMES, PEOPLE NOT GET ENOUGH SPACE OR SOME PEOPLE NOT GET HOMES FOR LIVE. LARGE BUILDING PROVIDE MORE ACCOMODATION AT LIMITED SPACE AREA. ALSO, GOVERMENT CAN USE REMAINING SPEACE TO MAKE PARKS OR GARDENS. ADDITIONALLY, PEOPLE CAN GET HOMES AT LOW PRICE IN APARTMENT COMPARE TO DUPLEX PRICE. FURTHERMORE, APARTMENT ALSO PROVIDES MANY FACILITIES SUCH AS, SECURITY AND IN-BUILT PARKING SPACE.

HOWEVER, PEOPLE CAN FACE SOME PROBLEMS IN BIG APARTMENT. FIRSTLY, THEY CAN NOT CHANGE OUTDOOR STRUCTURE OF THEIR HOME. THEY NEED TO FOLLOW SUME RULES. SECONDLY, PEOPLE CAN NOT GET MORE PRIVACY AND AVAILABLE SPACE SURROUNDING THEIR HOME. MOREOVER, PEOPLE, WHOSE HOUSES ARE LOCATED AT TOP FLOOR ALSO FACE PROBLEMS DURING POWER CUT SITUATION.

IN MY OPINION, APARTMENT IS A SUITABLE OPTION TO PREVENT ACCOMODATION PROBLME IN LARGE CITIES, BUT THERE SHOULD BE PROPER MANAGEMENT REQUIRED TO AVOID BASIC PROBLEMS.

TO CONCLUDE, APARTMENT HAS MANY BENEFITS TO SOCIETY AND PEOPLE, BUT SOME TIME THEY MAY FACE PROBLEMS DUE TO SPECIFIC REASON.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, suggesting that building tall apartment blocks is the best solution for urban accommodation shortages while acknowledging potential drawbacks. However, some ideas remain under-developed or repetitive. For instance, the discussion on why people move to cities touches on relevant points such as career, education, and health, but fails to fully extend these ideas with specific examples. Similarly, the drawbacks mentioned in the third paragraph, such as rules regarding the outdoor structure and power cuts on top floors, are introduced but lack deeper elaboration. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to expand on all main points with well-supported arguments and concrete examples rather than relying on generalised statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance stated early and maintained through to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct themes, such as the advantages of apartments, their drawbacks, and the final opinion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. The writer relies heavily on basic transitional markers like 'FIRSTLY', 'SECONDLY', and 'MOREOVER', and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences in the second body paragraph. To improve, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure smoother logical progression between sentences and ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing enough range to discuss urban housing. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'DEVELOPMENT', 'OPPORTUNITIES', and 'MANAGEMENT', but these are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling. For instance, words like 'ACCOMODATION' are consistently misspelled, and phrases such as 'TRANSFER FROM RURAL AREA' or 'LIMITED SPACE AREA' show unnatural collocations. Additionally, repetition of basic terms like 'HOMES', 'APARTMENT', and 'PROBLEM' limits the lexical variety. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use precise word forms and collocations, and eliminate basic spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, attempting structures with relative pronouns ('people, whose houses are located...') and subordinate clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. These include issues with subject-verb agreement and missing auxiliary verbs, such as 'A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE TRANSFER' instead of 'transferred', 'BUILD TALL APARTMENT BLOCK IS' instead of 'building', and 'PEOPLE NOT GET ENOUGH SPACE'. Articles and plural forms are also frequently mishandled, as seen in 'AT LOW PRICE' and 'DURING POWER CUT SITUATION'. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control.
