Student answer (Band 6.5)
An efficient way to fulfil rising demand of housing is to shift to tower like structures rather than wider homes. I completely agree with this statement.
Firstly, demand of housing is ever increasing and due to urbanization, millions of people migrate from one city to another and even one country to another increasing the pressure over existing housing system. Many evolving economies like GCC do not even have enough land to allow everyone to construct their home, instread they have to accomodate many people in a small area. A multistorey building can make home for tens of families. Therefore , it is inavitable to make people live in a small area.
Moreover, every country has limited natural resources and land area. No nation can allocate whole of its land just for residential purpose, it had to instal industries and other facilites as well, therefore need of high rise buildings arises. China is best example of it where over a billion people live in small cities and still have abundant of land to install industry or make expension. These cities have all the amenities that residents need. Each building is provided with a small clinic, school, market and a play area so the tenants do not have to go far for anything. Another example of this is Saudi Arabia "the line" project that will accomodate over a million people in 1 km multistorey city.
In conclusion, vertical constructoin is need of the time and governments should make people live in allocated buildings and leave the other land for agriculture, industry and possible future expension.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout in full agreement with the prompt. The writer presents relevant ideas to support the viewpoint, such as the pressures of urbanization, limited natural resources, and the need to preserve land for agriculture and industry. Specific examples are provided to support these claims, including references to the GCC economies, China, and Saudi Arabia's 'the line' project. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in places, and some ideas are slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the mention of GCC economies and China introduces strong concepts, but the explanation of how these examples specifically prove that tall apartment blocks are the absolute best solution could be elaborated further with deeper analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The overall arrangement is coherent, starting with a direct introduction stating the writer's position, followed by body paragraphs that examine distinct arguments, and concluding with a clear summary. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, though referencing and transitional phrases occasionally feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a central theme related to urban housing and resource management, ensuring the reader can easily follow the progression of ideas from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and specific terminology such as 'urbanization', 'infrastructure', 'amenities', and 'vertical construction'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect this level, such as 'instread' instead of 'instead', 'accomodate' with a single 'm', 'inavitable' instead of 'inevitable', and 'expension' instead of 'expansion'. Furthermore, some collocations are slightly awkward, such as 'make home for tens of families' instead of 'provide homes for tens of families'. These lexical inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning effectively. There is good control over basic sentence construction, and punctuation is generally handled adequately. However, there are some persistent errors in grammar, particularly with articles, prepositions, and singular-plural agreement. Examples include missing articles such as 'due to urbanization' and 'need of high rise buildings', incorrect prepositional usage like 'pressure over existing housing system' instead of 'pressure on', and missing plural forms or incorrect determiners such as 'China is best example of it'. Despite these occasional errors, the meaning is rarely impeded, and the sentence structures remain reasonably varied.
