Student answer (Band 5.5)
As the population in large cities growing day by day,and providing sufficient housing causes a very serious issue. Some people believes that building tall appartment blocks are good to handle this issue, but i partly agree to this statement, becuase high rise buildings accomodate alot of people with small usage of land, although they have some disadvantages.
One major advantage of tall appartments is that limited area of land is used.Thousand of people can live under a roof,so communication is very easy for them they can easily help to eachothers.Large cities have much expensive land and small area,so high-rise buildings, can adjust hundreds of family with low budget. For example in Dubai and other countries theirs a lot of higly raised buildings because land is expensive their and people can not afford.
Another, benefit is that appartment blocks can b located near to public transport, schools, markets and city centers, which is more convinient to move for people.
However,i do not believe that buildings with tall appartments alone is best.Community of that society faces many major issues like its not easy to survive in very suffocating envirnoment. Many of them like to live in very open and supacious places. Some people may prefer houses with large garden and outdoor courtyards.Noise of traffice could be very disturbing for physical and mental health, becuase unnecassary noise feels very irritating.
Therefore, government should build mixture of houses according to the taste of people. These appartments should be in medium raised buildings, variety of designs with large and small garden options should be available for them.
Tall appartment blocks are an effective way to provide large number of houses under sufficient land. However i believe that it should be designed more wisely and also with other type of building plan.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, stating that tall apartment blocks are useful for saving land but should be balanced with other housing types. Relevant ideas are presented, such as land scarcity in cities like Dubai and the benefits of being near public transport. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack full explanation, particularly the counter-arguments regarding environmental suffocation and noise pollution. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to fully extend and support all main points with more detailed explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance and distinct paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages. Logical sequencing is present, guiding the reader through the writer's thoughts. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen through repetitive referencing structures and occasional awkward transitions between sentences, such as abruptly shifting from transport benefits to disadvantages. Paragraphing is utilised, but internal cohesion could be smoother. To progress further, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure referencing is consistently clear throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'sufficient housing' and 'suffocating environment'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'appartment', 'higly raised', 'convinient', and 'supacious'. Spelling errors also occur, but they do not seriously impede communication. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, improve precision in word choice and collocations, and ensure greater accuracy in spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at structures like conditional and relative clauses. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in large cities growing', 'is best'), incorrect verb forms and tenses ('is a lot of higly raised buildings', 'theirs a lot'), punctuation omissions around clauses, and preposition errors. These errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to increase grammatical accuracy, especially regarding subject-verb agreement, article usage, and punctuation control, ensuring a higher proportion of error-free sentences.
