Student answer (Band 6.0)

Living in large cities where everyone has equal chance to access all opportunities is in a wishlist of every person. For this reason, to accomodate everyone government has shifted its focus to build tall apartments instead of large houses.

Big cities provide better facilities. Due to this, people like to migrate from rural areas to urban. These cities have better amenities such as good eduction, better healthcare provison, accessibility of every household articles and many more. The problem that usually inhabitants face is the lack of availability of living places. I agree with the statement that to provide accomodation tall buildings are the need of an hour. Firstly, these building save much of the land that can be used for other purposes such as building universities and hospitals etc. Secondly, flats in these building are quite cheap and affordable for everyone. They can easily spend a good life in low income. For example, if you want to live in a house one needs to pay hefty amount in terms of rent, but on the other hand, you can enjoy the apartment on the tall building next to that house in a minimal amount with the provision of same amenities in that area.

Although, there are some disadavantages of living in tall buildings such as poor evacuation process during any castastropic calamity such as earthquakes. Yet, the benifits still outweighs the risks.

In a nutshell, as this is a age of advacements and to cope with this fast pace life one needs to think and implement intelligently. Thats why it is not wise to waste land area in building single story houses, better to build heighted towers with multiple floors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position on the issue of building tall apartment blocks to provide homes in large cities. The writer presents relevant main ideas, such as land preservation and affordability, which contribute to a solid overall score. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, while the point about saving land for universities and hospitals is extended well, the counterargument concerning safety and earthquakes in the third paragraph is brief and lacks concrete elaboration. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to ensure all supporting arguments are equally well-developed with detailed examples or explanations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic. The writer attempts to logically sequence ideas, moving from the definition of the urban migration trend to the benefits of high-rise living, followed by drawbacks and a summarizing conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct stages of the argument. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transitional phrases like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In a nutshell' are relied upon heavily, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as in sentences like 'They can easily spend a good life in low income.' Improving the smooth flow between sentences without overly relying on basic transition markers would elevate the coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate the main arguments about urban housing. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'migrate', 'amenities', 'catastrophic calamity', and 'advancements'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'accomodate', 'eduction', 'provison', 'disadavantages', 'castastropic', 'benifits', 'outweighs' (agreement issue with plural noun), and 'heighted'. These errors occasionally cause mild hesitation for the reader, though they do not seriously impede communication. To move into a higher band, the writer must demonstrate greater control over less common lexical items and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional and concessive clauses, for instance, 'Although, there are some disadavantages... yet, the benifits still outweighs the risks.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in a wishlist', 'to build tall apartments'), preposition errors ('in terms of rent', 'in a minimal amount'), and occasional punctuation lapses, such as placing a comma immediately after 'Although'. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede overall communication. To achieve a higher band, the writer should increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over articles and prepositions.
