Student answer (Band 5.0)

The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build long apartments block is an good idea because it will take small place as in cities there is a small area to bulid a society so i agree and i will discuss here by analyzing some points then iwill put my opinion here.

First of all in cities there is small area to build large societies because cities have lots of buildings already. As there are buildings of shopping malls, buildings of hospitals with different varieties according to diseases for instance there are heart hospital separate sometimes as compared to surgical and general hospital. Different varieties in hospitals, different types of schools, different types of colleges, parks, playgrounds according to our needs. In villages there is lots of area to build houses in large ammount but other facilities like hospitals and colleges, shopping malls are not availabale.

So according to our needs there are lots of facilities in cities available in buildings that takes lots of space. If we build homes in large amont in the shape of large building with long, tall apartments in the shape of blocks it will take small area and lots of facilities will provided. And it will build good communication with people in same roof. They will care each other and feel safe.

On the other hand it has also bad points as some time after a little earthquacke the buildings that are not in good shape or not well constructed collapes in the results many people die and their house propert also finished. same in the flood situations or when fire in buildings.

To sum up ithink think that homes in large amounts in the ltall apartments block will take small area of place. It is a good idea in the cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of building tall apartment blocks in large cities, presenting a clear position in favour of the statement. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding urban infrastructure lists various types of hospitals, schools, and colleges without clearly connecting them back to why tall apartment blocks are the best solution. Similarly, the counterargument concerning natural disasters like earthquakes and floods is introduced briefly without sufficient extension or supporting examples. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop each main point with deeper explanations, specific examples, and a more robust analysis of the social and economic implications of high-rise living.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the text, with an attempt to separate ideas into an introduction, body paragraphs discussing pros and cons, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression from one paragraph to the next, and the transitions feel abrupt. Cohesive devices are used minimally or repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on 'First of all', 'So', and 'On the other hand', which can become mechanical. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it hard to follow the exact logical thread between sentences. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive ties, ensure each paragraph has a distinct thematic focus, and build smoother logical bridges between contrasting arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical resource displayed is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'small area', 'large amount', 'good idea', and 'bad points'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation throughout the text, such as 'long apartments block', 'take small place', 'amounnt', and 'earthquacke'. These lexical slips and spelling mistakes occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, incorporate less common lexical items related to urbanisation and housing, and pay closer attention to precise word choice and correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions. When attempts are made at complex sentence forms, they are frequently faulty, leading to run-on sentences such as the opening sentence: 'The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build long apartments block is an good idea because it will take small place...'. There are frequent errors in grammar, including subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect plurals, and prepositions, such as 'in the shape of large building' and 'in the flood situations'. These errors cause frequent difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to practise using a wider variety of complex grammatical structures accurately and control basic sentence boundaries and punctuation.
