Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that homes should be replaced with apartments in larger cities for the sake of significant space to build more residential areas. I completely agree with this statement because more and more people are migrating towards larger cities for better education as well as employment.

The primary reason is education because in smaller cities, villages and towns there is lack of reputable institutes such as school, colleges and universities. This mainly because citizens are getting aware to the benefits of education and everyone wants a bright future for their own children. They want their new generation to get all those facilities regarding their studies which were a dream for them in their childhood. For instance, i belongs to a small village there were only one primary school so my parents decided to move a city for my education. we bought a house in a relatively isolated road and now after 10 years this is the most bustling road in the city due to a large number of migrants. Therefore, it is evident that for building more houses, they should be converted to apartment buildings.

Furthermore, another significant reason is employment opportunities are relatively high in big cities than in others so, people are rushing to cities to get jobs and satisfactory lifestyle which is difficult to adopt in other areas. A clear example of this is a majority of healthcare professionals especially radiological technologists are heading to big cities because they have numerous healthcare jobs such as MRI , CT scan along with advanced and machinery because their are no jobs in periphery areas due to lack of machines and they cannot earn. Consequently, residential areas are getting stuck by massive house shifting so it further supports my opinion.

In conclusion, I completely agree with given statement as education facilities and job opportunities in main cities are attractive this change the attitude of people to living in main cities. That is the reason it is compulsory to build apartment blocks instead of homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear, consistent position throughout by agreeing that tall apartment blocks are the best solution for urban housing. Relevant ideas are presented, such as migration driven by education and employment opportunities, but some ideas are under-developed or rely too heavily on personal anecdotes rather than broader arguments. For instance, the personal example about moving from a small village to a city is somewhat detailed and detracts slightly from exploring the wider socioeconomic implications of high-rise urban planning. To reach a higher level, the response would need to extend its main arguments with more thorough, generalised analysis of urban density, land scarcity, and infrastructure challenges.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay achieves an overall coherent arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate distinct themes like education and employment. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or faulty, particularly in transitions between sentences and ideas, such as starting the second body paragraph with 'Furthermore, another significant reason is employment opportunities...'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrase 'due to a large number of migrants' where the precise antecedent is slightly blurred. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother links between clauses.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing sufficient range to communicate the main arguments about migration and housing. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'radiological technologists' and 'peripheral areas', but this is sometimes accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, for instance writing 'periphery areas' instead of peripheral areas or 'residential areas are getting stuck by massive house shifting'. There are also occasional word form and spelling slips that do not impede overall communication. A stronger lexical range with more precise control over less common lexical items is needed to advance further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use subordination and relative clauses. However, there are notable errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage throughout the response, such as 'there were only one primary school', 'i belongs', and missing articles before nouns like 'city'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur regularly and restrict the frequency of error-free sentences. To achieve a higher band, the writer must demonstrate better control over subject-verb agreement, verb tenses in personal narratives, and complex sentence structures.
