Student answer (Band 5.5)
The population of today's world is increasing. the Population is transferring their homes from country side to urban areas for better jobs and getting new opportunities . Due this , Population of cities had been increased. Urban area had less place to stay in the city. the solution for this problem is to build high rise buildings for providing enough homes to the all people staying there. I would disagree with this solution.
on the one hand, Cities has very limited places for living. For these we need to construct new building, hostels, hotels or apartments for making people live here. But living in Hotel or on the hostel might be stressful due to high prices of hotel rooms and restrictions in the hostels. Cities have limited land which is expensive and quite small. It is true to say that limited and expensive land will be having tall buildings. . This will create more house places to stay. For example, cities such as Singapore and Hong Kong have developed extensive high-rise residential areas because of their limited land availability.
On the Other hand, This is the solution for providing homes to families who want to stay in the cities. But some people say that tall buildings construction is quite challenging and homes will be costly as well. So many people are living in a small area will have congestion in that like transportation ,food ,water supply and roads. These will lead to overcrowded environment where people are fighting for basic necessities. High-density housing can also provide a less attractive living environment if residents have limited access to gardens, parks and other open spaces. due to these, people started to spend their most of time in their homes or at office. they will also have less exposure to sunlight due to this they will suffer from deficiency of vitamin D. children will not have park to play and they will start sticking to video games or watching TV and phones. this will affect their physical activities.
in conclusion, I would like to say that tall building are solution for providing homes but it is quite challenging as well. Well balanced urban design can solve this problem as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position by the end of the introduction, where the writer states, 'I would disagree with this solution.' Relevant ideas are presented regarding the challenges of high-rise living, such as increased congestion, a lack of green spaces, and potential impacts on health. However, some of these ideas are under-developed or lack full extension. For instance, the discussion regarding vitamin D deficiency and children playing video games touches upon relevant points, but it is not fully supported with deeper analysis or concrete elaboration. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to ensure that all main ideas are thoroughly extended with robust explanations and well-integrated examples, rather than shifting quickly between multiple smaller points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, indicating an underlying logic to the structure. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, transition phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the Other hand' are used, but they do not accurately reflect contrasting arguments in the context of this essay structure, as the writer actually concedes a point in the first body paragraph before offering counter-arguments in the second. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'For these we need to construct...', where the pronoun lacks a precise antecedent. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical progression within paragraphs needs smoother transitions to guide the reader seamlessly from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'extensive high-rise residential areas,' 'overcrowded environment,' and 'basic necessities.' However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation. Examples include 'house places' instead of 'housing,' 'on the hostel' instead of 'in hostels,' and the repetitive use of simple vocabulary phrases. Spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'country side' written as two words and awkward phrasing like 'Population is transferring their homes,' occur throughout the text, though they generally do not impede overall communication. Incorporating a wider variety of precise academic collocations would elevate this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination and relative clauses, such as in 'families who want to stay in the cities.' Nevertheless, there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage that persist throughout the text. Noticeable issues include subject-verb agreement errors like 'Population of cities had been increased' and 'Cities has very limited places,' incorrect prepositions such as 'spend their most of time,' and missing or unnecessary articles like 'the Population' and 'in a small area will have congestion.' Punctuation errors, such as spaces preceding commas and periods, are also recurrent. To improve, the writer should focus on strengthening control over basic sentence mechanics and ensuring accurate tense usage.
