Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believes that the most practical way to provide enough number of housing is to build high-rise buildings. Although this approach is understandable, I believe that increasing number of tall buildings could present with certain challenges, particularly for society, in terms of protection of green spaces, and the pressure on roads and public services.
One major reason for the greater demand for housing is that cities have become densely populated and resulting in shortage of residential areas. From this perspective, people consider that construction enough houses by building tall apartment blocks to be the best option. Therefore, to apply this approach, governemnts have to destroy and demolish parts of the cities that used to be open plans. This consequently can result in losing green spaces which could have serious implications for society. Furthermore, rising numbers of high-rise buildings can put pressure on roads, public transport, and other public services. This particularly can affects commuters as they often struggle to reach their work in time due to traffic congestion which can make everyday life stressful for them.
However, I agree that the increasing number of population needs to be accompined by housing development to provide enough places for people to live in, but governments should take into consideration that this kind of development requires improvement in their services and infrastructure. If governments succeded in organizing these pressing issues, by providing realistic alternatives while protecting their green spaces and reducing the pressure in their resources, it may consequenly prevent any negative impacts on individual's life and society as a whole.
Overall, although is it true that building hish-rise blocks are essential to provide solution for increasing number of population, it should not be the only solution. I believe with good governments planning, the challenges that arise from this kind of development to be tackel in order to improve people lives and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position on the issue of building tall apartment blocks. You outline both the perceived need for high-rise housing due to population growth and the potential negative consequences, such as the loss of green spaces and pressure on infrastructure. However, while the main arguments are relevant, some ideas remain slightly under-developed. For example, the point about pressure on roads and public services is introduced but lacks specific examples or further elaboration to fully substantiate how this impacts commuters. To reach a higher band, you would need to extend and support your arguments with deeper analysis and more concrete real-world examples rather than generalizing the outcomes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical arrangement of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from the introduction and counter-perspective to your own viewpoint and a concluding summary. You make use of cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'Consequently' to connect ideas, though some of these transitional phrases feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but paragraphing could be improved to ensure smoother transitions between opposing ideas. To progress further, you should strive for greater flexibility in your cohesive devices and ensure that logical relationships between sentences are managed more naturally without relying on formulaic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is used to communicate your ideas about urban housing and infrastructure. You attempt less common vocabulary items such as 'densely populated', 'residential areas', 'infrastructure', and 'traffic congestion'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text. For instance, phrases like 'provide enough number of housing' and 'construction enough houses' show awkward collocations, and words like 'governemnts', 'accompined', 'succeded', 'hish-rise', and 'tackel' contain spelling or morphological errors. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict your score. To achieve a higher level, you need to demonstrate greater precision and control over less common lexical items and eradicate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, showing an attempt to handle subordinate clauses with structures like 'Although this approach is understandable...' and 'If governments succeded in organizing...'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly involving subject-verb agreement ('Some people believes'), article usage ('provide enough number of housing'), and verb forms in subordinate clauses ('that arise from this kind of development to be tackel'). While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning of your sentences, they are frequent enough to prevent you from attaining a higher band. To improve, you should focus on sharpening your control over complex sentence patterns, ensuring accurate verb tense consistency, and polishing your subject-verb agreement.
