Student answer (Band 5.0)
Yes, I agree with the statement that "The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks".
As the population of the World is growing day by day, it is necessary to establish more homes. People need more space to establish more homes. As they need more space, they are cutting down trees and are destroying the forests grdually to establish their homes.
As people are cutting down the trees and are destroying the forests gradually, the amount of deforestation is increasing. Because of deforestation, the amount of oxygen is recuding that is crucial to breathe and the amount of carbon dioxide gas is increasing that is very harmful for us. As the amount of carbon dioxide is increasing, the global waming is also increasing. We can't get oxygen much for brathing. The environment, mostly the air, is polluting very badly. We can suffer from many severe diseases like asthma, breathing troubles etc. because of air polution.
It is seen that population increases the demand of homes, medicare etc. People can prevent establishing a lot of homes, instead people should establish tall apartment blocks. Thus, more area of forests can be saved. Thus, the cutting down of the trees will be recuded.
If all will start establishing tall apartment blocks together, the air pollution will also be reduced because no tree is being cut down. The global warming will be being reduced gradually. We can live together peacefully. Animals can live peacefully in forests.
People should think about it, otherwiswe, if it's too late, we will suffer from a great danger.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt regarding tall apartment blocks and their impact on housing and the environment, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the writer introduces the concept of deforestation and global warming, but these ideas are repeated multiple times across paragraphs without being extended or supported with specific examples. The position is stated in the introduction, but the overall argument feels somewhat simplistic and lacks depth in exploring alternative solutions or counter-arguments to high-rise living.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the essay, separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are often repetitive and used mechanically, such as starting multiple consecutive sentences with phrases like 'As people are cutting down...' or 'Thus, more area...'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are short and repetitive in content, which hinders the logical flow and makes the overall structure feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive words and phrases, such as 'establish more homes', 'cutting down trees', and 'tall apartment blocks'. There are also noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'grdually', 'recuding', 'waming', 'brathing', 'polution', and 'otherwiswe', which occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or repetitive subordinate clauses beginning with 'As'. While the writer attempts some complex forms, these are often faulty, such as in the phrase 'the global warming will be being reduced gradually'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and pluralisation—such as 'the population of the World', 'amount of oxygen is recuding', and 'a lot of homes'—which can cause difficulty for the reader.
