Student answer (Band 5.0)

I completely agree with the idea that tall apartment blocks in urban areas play a crucial role to provide enough homes.

There are numerous reasons why i believe this. One possible reason is that apartment in high rise buildings are more affordable than a house. Also, the rent will be cheaper and that's why poor people can afford it easily. In fact, they can buy their own apartment. Therefore, there will be plently of areas that are available for another activities for instance, playing, running, cycling etc.

In addition, government can run a project to provide shelter for unprivilaged people at a very low cost. As a result, a lot of people can have their own home to live. Besides, High rise building provide more opportunities to live with family.

In conclusion, considering the factors disscoused above, I believe that enough homes can provide in megacities by build long apartment blocks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially, as the writer takes a clear position agreeing with the prompt, but the ideas presented remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention that 'apartment in high rise buildings are more affordable' is introduced without sufficient supporting evidence or elaboration. Furthermore, the response falls significantly short of the required length, containing only 150 words compared to the minimum of 250. To achieve a higher band, the writer must fully develop all parts of the task with extended arguments, relevant examples, and meet the word count requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the essay, with basic paragraphing and an introduction and conclusion included. However, there is no clear overall progression throughout the text, and the cohesive devices used are often inadequate or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'Also', 'Besides', and 'Therefore'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the concluding sentence where pronouns and links break down. To improve, the writer needs to ensure a smoother logical progression between ideas and employ a wider, more accurate variety of cohesive ties and paragraph transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey a basic meaning, utilizing straightforward terms like 'homes', 'apartment', and 'cities'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('plently', 'unprivilaged', 'disscoued') and awkward word choices like 'long apartment blocks' instead of 'tall apartment blocks'. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the student should expand their lexical range by incorporating less common vocabulary and idiomatic phrases with greater precision and correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional, faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'apartment in high rise buildings are', article omissions such as 'provide shelter for unprivilaged people', and erroneous prepositions and infinitives like 'by build long apartment blocks'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to practice complex sentence structures and improve grammatical accuracy regarding verb forms, plurals, and prepositions.
