Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this topic given that in large cities is to buid tall apartment blocks to provide enough homes . in my opinion its advantages but also have disadvantages.

In this Recent years population is rapidly incresing world wide and peoples do not have enough homes and countries do not have enough land for people that they can live it in. in counties most of people have their own home like their own land so they do not lived in flats they lived in bunglow or mansion thats why for that they are come to those large cities they try to find the homes but they dont get for example in mumbai and dehli those are very big cities of india if you want to shift their for your better futue first you want to find the home because you lived there, but most of people not find the homes for lived because already people are settled there and now cities not have that much land for new commers or if any one find the home for lived it will be very expensive and not have all facilities thwy want.

The positive side is build tall apartment in large cities its solve a big problrm related to population and those find the home in those cities, because large apartment can give maximum peoples homes for living.

But the negative side is that if the apartment is too big like 20 or more than 20 floors that can also creates a big issues for those cities for example if any natural disaster comes it will be harm a big cities

In the conclusion, there is apvantages and disadvantages for building a tall apartments in large apartments

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt only partially, outlining both advantages and disadvantages, but the position is not consistently clear throughout the essay. The ideas presented are rather limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding people moving from villages or smaller towns to large cities in India, such as Mumbai and Delhi, is repetitive and lacks extension with well-chosen supporting examples. While the writer touches upon the necessity of housing and the risks of natural disasters, these points are stated simplistically without robust elaboration. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all parts of the task with extended explanations, clearer central positions, and fully supported arguments rather than relying on brief, generalized assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organization present, with separate paragraphs for the introduction, body points covering advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, making the flow somewhat mechanical. For example, transition phrases like 'The positive side is' and 'But the negative side is' are overly simplistic and repetitive. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, particularly in the lengthy second paragraph which bundles multiple ideas together without smooth logical transitions. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive markers naturally, ensure clear referencing, and structure each paragraph around a single, clearly developed central theme with logical progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited in range, though minimally adequate to communicate the basic topic. There are noticeable lexical errors and issues with word formation, word choice, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling errors like 'buid', 'incresing', 'commers', and 'apvantages', as well as awkward phrasing such as 'shift their for your better futue' and 'maximum peoples homes'. Less common lexical items are rarely attempted, and when they are, inaccuracies in collocation and word form occur frequently. To progress, the student must expand their vocabulary range, practice correct word formation, improve spelling accuracy, and incorporate more precise, topic-specific terminology appropriate for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences or faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions that often cause difficulty for the reader and can distort meaning. Examples include 'In this topic given that', 'peoples do not have', 'most of people not find the homes', and 'it will be harm a big cities'. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and missing capitalization at the start of sentences. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammar rules, reduce the frequency of errors across simple and complex structures, and improve overall sentence construction.
