Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt only partially and fails to meet the minimum word count of 250 words, coming in at 241 words. While a position is stated in the introduction where the writer agrees that tall apartment blocks are the best option, the ideas that follow are limited and under-developed. The writing drifts into discussing general causes of moving to big cities rather than maintaining a strict focus on whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution for housing shortages. Supporting points lack adequate elaboration and examples, remaining at a basic level throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation present, with attempts at paragraphing and basic transitional markers such as "However" and "in conclusion". However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, as seen in repetitive referencing and poor linking between clauses. Furthermore, the sequencing of ideas lacks clarity, making it difficult for the reader to follow a cohesive argument from the introduction through to the final sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There is a frequent presence of noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation, such as "evrybody", "accoumodation", "redres", "numerious", "prominant", and "difiicult". The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to urban living, but these attempts are marred by inaccurate spelling and incorrect word forms, which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The range of grammatical structures is limited. The writer attempts some complex sentences, but these attempts are frequently faulty, characterised by frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence structure. Examples include "the accoumodation are not enjoy everyone", "build apartment blocks is the best option", and "each citizens have right to move". These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty and strain for the reader throughout the text.
