Student answer (Band 6.0)
Today, the world we live in is facing severe over-population crisis, hence, it is irrefutable that some serious steps should be taken to resolve this concerning issue. From my point of view, undoubtedly, building tall apartment buildings can prove to be a radical solution, let us analyze both it's pros and cons to reach a conclusion.
To discuss about the demerits, in apartment systems, all the families are given the same structured apartments irrespective of their family sizes and basic needs which proves to be quite unfair and unrealistic. In addition to that, construction of such buildings will embark the rise of mafia system where only selective pockets will be filled and benefit from it.
On the other hand, such a building can provide homes to multiple individuals and families with minimal land consumption, solving major concerns such as increasing deforestation, rapid destruction of nature which serves as home for various wild animals, global warming with decreasing greenery, forestation and over-land -consumption, reducing fertile soil available for cultivation.
In addition to that, living in apartment buildings can also solve the raising problem of social hierarchy along with status ladder where people reside in the same building, realize the true essence of being a human being in the modern era of technology.
To conclude it all, i would like to say that the rise of apartment building will certainly prove to be a radical solution, as it's advantages clearly over-shadow the disadvantages, which are also solvable, given that our government works on them deligently, completely unbaised.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position regarding tall apartment blocks and providing both arguments for and against them. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which is typical of a mid-level performance. For instance, the argument about minimizing land consumption and protecting nature is reasonably clear, but the points regarding the demerits—such as families receiving the 'same structured apartments' and the emergence of a 'mafia system'—are somewhat limited, under-developed, and lack specific supporting examples. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to extend these arguments with deeper explanations and more realistic, well-supported examples rather than relying on sweeping generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and a concluding summary at the end. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, the demerits, the merits, the social aspects, and the conclusion. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or forced, with transitional phrases like 'To discuss about the demerits' and 'In addition to that' used repeatedly to link ideas. Additionally, referencing and logical progression can be slightly disjointed, such as the abrupt transition between paragraphs regarding social hierarchy. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices naturally and ensure smoother transitions between paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate basic arguments, such as 'over-population crisis,' 'radical solution,' and 'minimal land consumption.' There are, however, noticeable word choice, collocation, and spelling errors throughout the text, including phrases like 'raising problem' instead of 'rising problem,' 'deligently' instead of 'diligently,' and 'unbaised' instead of 'unbiased.' The writer attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'deforestation' and 'cultivation,' but inaccuracies in word form and collocation persist. To reach the next level, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, improve precision in word choice, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes to ensure smoother communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses (e.g., 'given that our government works on them deligently'). There are, however, several errors in grammar and punctuation that surface throughout the essay. Examples include punctuation errors like comma splices ('crisis, hence, it is irrefutable'), incorrect pronoun usage with apostrophes ('it's pros and cons' instead of 'its'), and prepositional issues within grammatical patterns. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they prevent the text from achieving a higher level of grammatical control. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering punctuation rules, ensuring correct possessive determiner usage, and reducing recurring structural errors.
