Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is a growing debate on building tall apartment blocks provide enough homes in large cities. I disagree with view because tall apartments have too many problems related to contruction, rules and reguations, and parking space.

One of the main reason is development. Contructing a tall apartment required a lot of experience and efforts because most of the developers use cheap construction material and have less experience. For example, using low quality cement and bonds to save money conquently the building may fall. As a result, Building a tall aparments requires a lot of experience and money to make it effectively .

Other reasons include parking space , rules and regulation. Most of the apartments have rules and regulations like no extra activities, no new contructions, pets are not allowed and many more. Another major disadvantage is parking space. For example, a building has 200 apartments and parking space is for only 180 cars where were the 20 cars being parked. As a result, people try to park their car first , new contruction in their apartment leads to major arguments.

In conclusion, building tall aparments in big cities is not a good solution although medium sized apartments may be acceptable. I disgree with the opinion of building tall apartments to provide enough homes in big cities.

Overall5.0

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position against tall apartment blocks, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed throughout the essay. The reasons provided, such as construction quality and parking spaces, are introduced but lack sufficient extension or detailed support, leading to a restricted treatment of the topic. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum 250-word count, which limits its ability to fully develop the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used repetitively or inaccurately, such as the recurring use of 'For example' followed by undeveloped statements and mechanical transitions like 'As a result' appearing multiple times. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion is frequently faulty, making the flow of ideas disjointed at times.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the topic. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'contruction' (construction), 'reguations' (regulations), 'conquently' (consequently), and 'bonds' instead of proper building materials, which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but word choice and spelling inaccuracies restrict precision and fluency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms and agreement, such as 'tall apartment blocks provide', 'Contructing a tall apartment required', and structural fragments like 'where were the 20 cars being parked.' Punctuation and article errors also persist, causing frequent difficulties and straining comprehension for the reader.
