Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally and fails to meet the required word count, falling significantly short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum. The student attempts to discuss whether tall apartment blocks are the best solution for housing shortages in large cities. While a basic position is presented, the ideas remain heavily restricted, repetitive, and severely under-developed. For instance, the mention that tall blocks provide flats with two bedrooms and various facilities is underdeveloped and lacks sufficient explanation or relevant examples. Consequently, the response only touches upon the prompt tangentially, resulting in minimal development of the central arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the text, evident through attempts at paragraphing and basic connectors like 'For example', 'however', and 'Therefore'. However, there is no clear overall progression across the essay, and the structure feels disjointed due to the extremely fragmented sentences. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and sometimes inaccurate manner, such as the abrupt transitions between brief sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs lack internal logical development and clear flow, meaning information and ideas are not arranged with a cohesive overarching structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range that struggles to adequately convey ideas. There are numerous noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation—such as 'whethere', 'citirs', 'apartent', and 'in concluse'—which frequently strain the reader and impede clear communication. The student attempts basic descriptive terms related to housing, but the restricted resource and constant lexical inaccuracies prevent precise expression, keeping the range at a minimal level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence forms and frequent attempts at complex or compound structures that are heavily flawed. Errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure are very frequent throughout the text, such as missing subjects, incorrect verb forms like 'othere argu', and broken sentence boundaries ('this is because inside all facilities ican live in one building'). These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and often distort the intended meaning of the sentences.
