Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally, as it is severely incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence at 'a large apartment blo'. Because the essay does not meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, the development of ideas is heavily truncated. While the writer manages to state a partial position in the introduction regarding safety risks and high-density housing, the arguments are left undeveloped and fail to reach a logical conclusion. To improve for this criterion, you must ensure that you write a full-length essay that thoroughly explores both sides of the prompt with extended supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response shows some basic organisation through the use of an introductory paragraph and a standard opening cohesive phrase ('To begin with'). However, due to the very short length of the text, there is no clear overall progression or conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the abrupt ending prevents any sustained logical flow. Referencing is generally clear within the limited text, but cohesive devices are minimal and insufficient to guide the reader through a well-structured argument. To move to a higher band, you need to structure a complete essay with a clear progression of ideas supported by a wider range of cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'challangeing' instead of challenging, and 'accomodation' instead of accommodation. The writer attempts some appropriate topic-related vocabulary like 'widespread issue', 'recreational spaces', and 'vital role', but the range is limited and constrained by the brief length of the response. These lexical errors and the restricted vocabulary pool mean the range is somewhat limited. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your range of less common lexical items and pay closer attention to correct spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a limited range of structures, attempting some complex forms such as 'it has become challangeing to have a spacious house so, it has become a topic of debate that whether...' which contains punctuation errors and awkward phrasing. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including unnecessary commas and awkward clause linking. While meaning is generally still accessible in the completed portions, the errors in sentence structures and mechanics are noticeable. To improve your grammar score, aim to use a wider variety of complex sentence structures accurately and reduce basic punctuation and agreement errors.
