Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the prompt only partially, attempting to discuss both agreeing and disagreeing aspects of building tall apartment blocks. However, the writer's position is not always clear, and ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, points regarding land preservation and tourism are stated briefly without sufficient explanation or specific examples. Thirteen words copied directly from the task prompt were not counted toward the minimum length requirement, though the text still successfully met the overall word count threshold. To improve, the writer needs to present a consistent, well-developed position throughout the essay and support all main arguments with detailed explanations and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation with paragraphs introduced to separate different viewpoints, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the overuse of transitional phrases like 'It also', 'It can', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical links between sentences are often weak, making it difficult to follow the line of argument. To reach a higher level, the writer should employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic sentence that links smoothly to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, reflecting a basic range that is only minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'lower cast family' instead of lower-caste or low-income families, and 'population maintain' instead of population management or growth. Spelling and word-form errors, including 'conjusted' and 'donnot', occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, learn correct word collocations, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms to ensure clear and precise communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. While simple sentences are occasionally used, attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to numerous errors in sentence construction. Frequent errors are present in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as in 'I will giving the agree and disagree' and 'people are getting difficult to find'. These persistent grammatical mistakes can cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To advance, the writer must work on mastering basic sentence patterns, ensuring correct verb tenses and agreement, and reducing the frequency of foundational errors.
