Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been observed that there is a need for homes in the metropolitent cities is increasing steadily. On which it is argued that the most ideal approach to offer sufficient number of accommodation is to construct tall skyscrapers with apartment blocks. To which i completely agree. The tall buildings acquire less area in width, and due to the problem of less space in the big cities the conctruction of an individual home is quite difficult.

The formost argument to justify my answer is that there is limited space available for the construction of new buildings in large cities and the need for the accommodations is rapidly increasing. Although tall buildings also acquire space at the bottom, they stand tall and become home to many people. for instance if tall building has 100 appartments so it can become residence for 100 families. which also helps people to move to a city for work of other purposes.

Furthermore, the construction of a house in the big city can be expensive for a single family and they can only rent their house to very few people. However, if a tall building is created at the same spot it can help the owner to rent out appartment blocks and make more profit from the same piece of land. And this will also help the tenents looking for place to live in big cities, students or working individeals for instance.

In conclusion, i fully agree that the need of accommodation can be fulliled by construction tall building to rent out appartment blocks in addition it can also benefit the tenents and the owner of the property.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear, consistent position throughout in agreement with the statement. The main ideas are relevant and directed towards solving urban space limitations by building upwards. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended, which is characteristic of this level. For instance, the discussion on the economic benefits for owners and tenants in the third paragraph introduces valid points, but these could be expanded with more detailed explanations or concrete examples to demonstrate a deeper exploration of the prompt. Overall, the core requirements of the task are met effectively, showing a solid understanding of how to address an academic opinion essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression of ideas from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the argument, such as spatial efficiency and economic advantages. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas together, though referencing and transitional phrases occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on transitional markers like 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion'. Pronoun referencing could also be tightened to ensure smoother connections between sentences. Despite these minor limitations, the structure guides the reader through the argument with clear organizational control.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items related to urban development such as 'metropolitent', 'skyscrapers', and 'accommodation'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text that reflect limitations in lexical control. For example, 'metropolitent' contains a spelling error, 'conctruction' is misspelled, 'appartments' has a doubling error, and terms like 'individeals' and 'tenents' require correction. Furthermore, expressions like 'offer sufficient number of accommodation' show awkward collocations. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the score, as precise word choice and accurate spelling are required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'if tall building has 100 appartments so it can become residence for 100 families'. There is a limited range of complex structures attempted, and attempts at complexity are frequently accompanied by grammatical errors. Issues include frequent article omissions and misuse, subject-verb agreement slips, and punctuation errors. For instance, lowercase capitalization is used for personal pronouns in the middle of sentences ('i completely agree', 'i fully agree'), and prepositional patterns within phrases require better control. Grammatical errors occur consistently, but they rarely impede overall comprehension, allowing the reader to follow the intended arguments.
