Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people argue that in urban cities, the best way to solve the housing problem is that, accomodate the residents in a tall building. I do not agree with this approach. Infact I firmly believe that housing in an essential need of everyone and they must be provided equally to everyone.

The first reason behind my opinion is that, there are ,many countries in the world whom economy depends on agriculture significantly. If their residents prefer to migrate to the cities it will create an imbalance of rural and urban population and this will eventually result in low production of agricultural goods. Moreover, a large number of migration towards urban areas will consequently lack resources there and lead to many problems such as congestion and housing facilities as urban cities lack residential areas and there are not enough spaces to provide everyone with adequate facilities.

Moreover, tall residential building areas are not enough for individuals, because they just provide a house but other facilities are difficult to be shared equally. For example, humans beings are tend to be social and they just don't need a home to survive, they require several other things in their life to be balanced such as jobs, enough housing space, fresh air and many others. If we just provide them an apartment in the building they can easily feel isolated. Although this looks like nothing but a robotic life. For instance, going to work and then coming back in a small apartment, this can lead to anxiety and other mental health problems.

In conclusion, accomodating people in the apartments is a negative approach beacuse this can harm individuals mentally and socially. Although this imbalance in the rural and urban population can also promote other issues which can destroy the agricultre industry and in addition it will be difficult for the government as well to provide everyone with equall opportunities. I beleive that their should be a well maintained balance in rural and urban population.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a position on the topic by disagreeing with the statement, but your arguments drift away from the core prompt about housing solutions in large cities. Instead of focusing directly on whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes, much of your discussion centers on rural-urban migration, agricultural decline, and general social isolation. While these ideas are loosely connected to urbanisation, they are under-developed and only partially address the specific question. To reach a higher band, you need to stay strictly focused on the advantages and disadvantages of high-rise buildings as a housing strategy, ensuring your arguments directly evaluate this specific method of urban development rather than expanding into broader sociological issues.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

Your essay has a basic overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by how ideas are linked and sequenced. You make frequent use of cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'For example', but their usage can be repetitive or mechanically applied, making the flow somewhat disjointed. Additionally, paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organization of your body paragraphs lacks clear topical unity—for instance, mixing thoughts on migration and lack of resources in a single paragraph. To improve, you should ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-defined point and that cohesive devices are used more naturally to guide the reader smoothly through your arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'adequate facilities', 'urbanisation', and 'isolation'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout your text that impact precision. For example, you write 'accomodate' instead of accommodate, 'Infact' instead of In fact, and refer to 'agricultre' instead of agriculture. Furthermore, phrasing such as 'humans beings are tend to be social' contains collocation and word-form inaccuracies. To achieve a higher score, you need to expand your vocabulary control, ensure correct word forms and spellings, and select more precise collocations to convey your ideas naturally and clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your writing displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions alongside some attempts at complex sentences. Unfortunately, your attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty, containing noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors. For instance, you write 'housing in an essential need' (article and preposition errors), 'there are ,many countries' (unnecessary punctuation), and 'their should be' (incorrect pronoun form). You also struggle with subject-verb agreement and prepositional patterns in phrases like 'a large number of migration towards urban areas'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, you should work on diversifying your sentence patterns while improving accuracy in basic grammar rules, articles, and punctuation.
