Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that high rise buildings is the most effective way to provide enough space for residents. I completely agree with this view because tall buildings can accomodate a large number of people in a small place, and help cities with the growing population.

Firstly, high rise buildings can accomodate a large number of people in a small area. This is perticularly important in large cities, when available land is not fully available to construct new houses. For instance, a single tall building can accomodate large quantity of people without taking extra place. Therefore, it is important in developed cities to construct high rise buildings for provide enough homes.

Secondly, tall building can helpful to handle growing population in large citise. People are migrating from small cities to large cities for better educational and professional opportunities, and they require enough homes for living. In my university, for example, most students shift from different backgrounds to lahore for better education and they are still working in same city. People shifting in large places permanently for their better future, and this practice increase the number of people in large cities. Therefore, tall buildings are effective method to provide enough houses.

In conclusion, tall buildings provide enough houses for large amoungt people, while making efficient use of limited land in large cities. Therefore, I believe tall apartment blocks are effective way to manage a large amount of people and cover all migrants who come for education facilities or better career opportunities in one place,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear and consistent position in agreement with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. Relevant main ideas are presented, such as the efficient use of limited land and accommodating a growing population, as seen when you state that high rise buildings can accommodate a large number of people in a small area. However, some ideas remain under-developed or rely on generalisations rather than fully extended arguments. For example, while you mention migration to large cities for education and career opportunities, the supporting example regarding your university and Lahore is slightly repetitive and lacks deeper elaboration. To reach the next level, you need to fully develop all main points with more extended explanations and richer supporting details throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, as well as distinct body paragraphs marked by signposting expressions such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion.' This creates a clear structure where information and ideas are generally organized logically. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally faulty, which affects the smooth flow of the text. For instance, transitional phrases feel somewhat formulaic, and phrases like 'tall building can helpful' or the repetition of 'large cities' disrupt the natural progression of ideas. To achieve a higher score, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that referencing between sentences is seamless and unobtrusive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

An adequate range of vocabulary is attempted to communicate your perspective on urban housing, including terms such as 'population,' 'migrating,' and 'professional opportunities.' However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, along with inappropriate word choices and word forms that reflect an insufficient control of lexical features. For example, you wrote 'accomodate' instead of accommodate, 'perticularly' instead of particularly, and used phrases like 'take extra place' instead of 'take up extra space' or 'provide enough homes' where prepositional collocation is slightly awkward. Additionally, 'large amoungt people' contains a spelling and grammatical form error. To improve your lexical score, you must expand your range of less common vocabulary while focusing heavily on correct spelling, word forms, and natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional or relative-style clauses, showing an attempt at grammatical variety. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but these errors rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical slips include 'high rise buildings is' (subject-verb agreement error), 'tall building can helpful' (missing verb), and 'for provide enough homes' (incorrect infinitive/preposition pattern). Furthermore, articles are occasionally misused or omitted, as seen in 'tall building' or 'in one place'. To move up to a higher band, you need to increase your control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors by carefully proofreading your verb forms, prepositions, and subject-verb agreements.
