Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is considerable debate about whether building tall apartment blocks helps in providing enough home to people.I disagree with this idea because the concern associated with tall building will become increasingly more due to risk of collapse during environmental danger and also the fact it does not offer permanent solution to the issue.
The main point in arguing against construction of tall building is the fragile nature of the building in the case of earthquakes. The incidence of natural disaster around the globe is going on rising and this in turn creates loss of clarity on the tall apartment blocks. Tall buildings are prone to risk in case of earthquakes, hence making it the biggest reason for the disagreement.
In addition to this, building tall building to accomodate more people can never be the permanent solution. The population of poeple in the city will keep on growing, so it makes the plan of tall apartment blocks more impractical. For instance, this idea may seem to work just for 10-15 years, but it does not address the issue completely. Also, it becomes difficult to maintain a long structure because of the difficult accessibility and the economics involved.
In conclusion, although building tall blocks could give shelter to more people, i believe that this idea does not provides permanent solution to the problem and also the increased risk factor of collapse in the case of eathquakes. Difficulty in maintaing tall building over time is also one of the problem with this idea.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position against building tall apartment blocks. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which keeps the response at this level. While the main arguments concerning natural disasters and the lack of a permanent solution are introduced, they rely on general assertions rather than fully elaborated examples. For instance, the mention that the idea 'may seem to work just for 10-15 years' is a relevant point, but it lacks specific context or elaboration. To reach higher bands, the writer should extend these supporting ideas with more detailed explanation or concrete real-world illustrations to fully substantiate the position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic running through each paragraph. The writer uses an introductory paragraph, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this' and 'For instance' are used to connect sentences and paragraphs, successfully guiding the reader through the argument. However, cohesion is at times slightly mechanical or repetitive in its transitional phrases. To achieve a fully cohesive standard throughout, the writer could integrate more varied referencing and subtle cohesive links, ensuring that transitions flow even more naturally from one point to the next without relying on formulaic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'environmental danger', 'fragile nature', and 'accessibility'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and word choice errors, such as 'providing enough home' instead of 'homes', 'poeple' instead of 'people', and 'maintaing' instead of 'maintaining'. Phrasing like 'loss of clarity on the tall apartment blocks' is also imprecise and awkward. These errors in word choice and spelling do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. To improve, the writer should focus on precise collocations, word forms, and careful proofreading to eliminate minor spelling slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating structures such as conditional and concessive clauses, for example, 'although building tall blocks could give shelter to more people, i believe that...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in case of earthquakes' instead of 'in the case of earthquakes'), subject-verb agreement issues ('the concern... will become'), and lowercase capitalization for the pronoun 'i'. Fortunately, these grammatical slips rarely impede overall communication. To move higher, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over punctuation, articles, and capitalization.
