Student answer (Band 5.5)

The increasing demand for housing in large urban cities is a presistent challenge. One proposed solution is the construction of tall buildings. This essay will narrate the extint to which i agree or disagree with this statement that the tall apartment blocks are best way to provide enough homes in larger cities.

Somehow i agree with this statement but also disagree due to certain reasons.

As we know it is a tedious task to control population in cities. But the most difficult thing is to provide accomodation to those migrants who are migrated to larger cities from different backward areas. People probably do migration to cities for good education, jobs, health facilities and much more basic oppurtunities that are not available in rural areas. It is a good act of government to construct tall apartment blocks to provide accomodation to migrants and as well as to residience. Because if they expand the residencial areas they have to cut jungles and much more natural areas that are the habitats of biodiversity. It also leads to more pollution if they cut trees and jungles. So due to this reason this act in considered good of constructing tall apartment blocks.

However i also disagree with this statement due to some reasons such as the tall apartment blocks are suffocated. The residence of these building suffers much more problems than people who live in wide and big houses. It is also considered such a problem for those people who live in upper floors of these buildings in the case of any alarming situation such as natural disasters. It is difficult for them to escape in such situations such as fire and earthquack.

The conclusion is that the government should provide the same facilities of life to rural people as of urban people, so they dont have to migrate to larger cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task only partially, as the position is not always clearly sustained throughout the essay. The introduction attempts to state a view, but the phrasing is somewhat conversational and unclear ('this essay will narrate the extint to which i agree or disagree'). While the body paragraphs put forward some relevant ideas regarding the protection of natural areas and the safety issues of tall buildings, these ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the point about natural disasters lacks detailed support or concrete examples, and the conclusion introduces a completely new idea about rural development rather than effectively summarising the arguments presented. To move closer to higher bands, the writer needs to present a well-developed position with fully extended and supported ideas for both sides of the argument without introducing disconnected final thoughts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the structure of the essay, with separate paragraphs for the introduction, body points, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The transition between paragraphs feels abrupt, and cohesive devices are often mechanical or inadequate, such as 'Somehow i agree' and 'However i also disagree'. Referencing can also be unclear at times, making the logical link between sentences weak. Furthermore, paragraphing is not always used effectively; for example, the second paragraph consists of only a single short sentence. To improve in this area, the writer should ensure that ideas logically flow from one to the next using a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices, and build cohesive paragraphs that fully develop a single central topic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the basic meaning of the response. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'biodiversity', 'accommodation', and 'urban cities', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that can cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples of these issues include 'presistent' instead of persistent, 'extint' instead of extent, 'migrated' used where migrating is required, 'residience' instead of residents, and 'oppurtunities'. There is also unnatural collocation in phrases like 'good act of government'. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their lexical range and pay closer attention to spelling, word formation, and precise word choices suited to academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the response, including issues with articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and verb patterns. Examples include 'people probably do migration', 'in considered good of constructing', and 'earthquack' (which is a spelling/form error, though grammatical errors also include patterns like 'problems than people who live in wide and big houses'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty and distraction for the reader. To reach the next level, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with good control, reducing the density of basic grammatical errors in punctuation and sentence architecture.
