Student answer (Band 6.0)
With the increasing population, housing has become limited and scarce. In order to sustain this lack of housing, a proposal is made by constructing tall apartment blocks as a solution. I believe that building apartments vertically in cities can help provide better space and arrangement for people who lived in an urban area.
One common problem about building houses is the limited land available for sale. With limited lot there's not enough space to build another house. In a city like the capital of a certain country, it is preoccupied with big stores, company offices and government centers. These make it impossible to own a land and build a house. Building tall apartment blocks makes it possible to own something in the city, it is easier to purchase and it's a smarter option to consider.
It is also way affordable to rent apartment units than building a new house. One of the major concern why people are homeless or displaced in the city is how expensive it is to have your own house. Apartments and condos are more feasible to own or rent. It comes with contracts with the owner and has a lot of perks for example, it is equiped with different facilities like gyms and entertainment centers. It also has it's own security system that make homeowners feel secure and safe.
In cities where it's busy and congested, building tall apartment blocks not only provide enough homes but also make space for roads and transportations. With right planning and smart architecture it is indeed a good way to provide shelter and home for people who live in the city.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing with the given statement. Main ideas are relevant, such as the lack of land and the affordability of renting apartments compared to building houses. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the discussion on affordability and amenities is elaborated, while the points regarding land availability remain somewhat general and rely on broad assertions rather than extended examples. The response successfully meets the core requirements of addressing the prompt while displaying a clear, albeit partially developed, line of argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic for each paragraph, ensuring the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments about land scarcity, financial feasibility, and urban planning. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'One common problem', 'It is also', and 'In cities where', though the referencing and linking are at times slightly mechanical or repetitive. Pronoun referencing is generally clear, but transitional links between sentences could be managed more flexibly to achieve a smoother flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday and topical concepts related to housing and urbanization. There are clear attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'preoccupied', 'feasible', and 'congested', though some word choices and collocations are slightly imprecise, such as 'sustain this lack of housing' or 'own a land'. Spelling and word-choice errors, including 'equiped' and 'it's own', occur occasionally but they do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without significant strain.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as relative clauses and conditional-style framings. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including article omissions and pluralization issues like 'limited lot', 'major concern', and 'transportations'. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication. The control over sentence boundaries and basic verb forms is generally sound, reflecting a solid foundation with minor slips that prevent the text from reaching a higher accuracy tier.
