Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response only minimally addresses the task, primarily because the length requirement is severely not met, reaching a mere one hundred and fourteen words instead of the required two hundred and fifty. Consequently, the position on whether building tall apartment blocks is the best solution is only briefly introduced with phrases like 'Personally, I do agreed with the idea'. The development of ideas is heavily restricted, offering only a basic mention of urban migration and a trailing example regarding Dubai that cuts off mid-sentence. To achieve a higher band, the response must fully explore the arguments surrounding high-rise living, provide well-supported examples, and meet the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation evident in the progression from an introductory statement to body ideas, and basic cohesive markers such as 'For example' are introduced. However, the overall progression is limited by the abrupt ending of the text and the lack of fully developed paragraphs. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'Due to which city population increases'. Paragraphing is incomplete, preventing a cohesive flow of ideas. To move to the next level, the writer needs to ensure logical sequencing across fully realised paragraphs and use a wider variety of cohesive devices accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms such as 'cities', 'problem', and 'people'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'arhitects', 'convienent', and 'accomaodations', which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary is limited, and attempts at less common lexical items are hampered by these inaccuracies. To reach a higher standard, the writer should incorporate a broader range of precise vocabulary relating to urban planning and ensure correct spelling and word formation throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer employs a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex forms, such as 'Many city planners and arhitects believes' and 'I do agreed'. Frequent errors occur in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, including 'one of the biggest problem' and 'As compare to'. These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty and strain for the reader. To improve this area, the writer needs to demonstrate control over basic grammatical structures, maintain correct subject-verb agreement, and incorporate error-free complex sentences.
