Student answer (Band 6.0)
Building tall apartment blocks in cities is being common these days. A group of people thinks that this strategy will lead to hyper urbanization. On the other hand, many people believe that it's need of the hour to build multi-family apartments. I agree with the fact that latrger cities should have such high-rise apartment units as it saves land and provide living space to more people.
The rise in population has raised the demand of land. Lately, it has been witnessed that administrations of different cities had to use agricultural land to build residential societies. This is an alarming situation, reducing agricultural field can lead to shortage of food for such expanding population.
Secondly, if the residential socities expand horizontally, there is more surface of earth covered by concrete. In case of precipitation, less water gets absorbed in the soil. It affects the underground water table as well as causes urban flooding. A research conducted in Pakistan in 2023, has mentioned expanding cities as one major cause of urban flooding during monsoon.
Lastly, it has been observed that in tall building apartments that need an active Homeowner's Association (HOA), communities build stronger. They have common outdoor spaces where social interact becomes easier. It helps the families to interact and make friends.
The bottom line is that the high-rise residential blocks should be promoted in big cities. Such places can help to save land, evolve green and build stronger human relations. Expanding vertically is the best solution to adjust rapidly increasing population.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the statement, supported by relevant ideas. You successfully explore the benefits of high-rise buildings, such as saving agricultural land and preventing urban flooding, which bridges the gap to a higher level. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the point regarding community and Homeowner Associations in paragraph four lacks deeper expansion compared to your arguments about land use. To reach the next level, ensure that every main idea is fully supported with extended explanations or concrete examples rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices to signal progression, such as 'Secondly', 'Lastly', and 'The bottom line is'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, cohesion sometimes feels a bit mechanical or formulaic, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as the abrupt transition into the discussion about Homeowner Associations. To achieve a higher standard, strive for a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs by relying more on logical relationships and synonyms rather than repetitive transition markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'hyper urbanization', 'precipitation', and 'underground water table'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as writing 'latrger' instead of 'larger', 'is being common' instead of 'has become common', 'it's need' instead of 'it is a need', and 'social interact' instead of 'social interaction'. There are also minor spelling slips. These inaccuracies do not impede communication, placing your vocabulary use firmly at the target level, but eliminating them through more precise phrasing will help you progress further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that you can construct multi-clause sentences effectively. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('demand of land' instead of 'demand for land'), pluralization issues ('reducing agricultural field' instead of 'fields'), and minor prepositional mistakes. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To move towards a stronger grammatical profile, focus on improving your control over articles, prepositions, and singular-plural agreement while incorporating an even wider variety of error-free complex structures.
