Student answer (Band 4.5)
This passage illustrates the information about the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.
Firstly, the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks as it saves our money and time. Because we could not need to find different lands for building homes. As it requires to purchase different sectors from different owners and it also takes time in doing paperwork of land ownership. So, it is easier to buy a plaza and build tall apartment blocks in it. For example: If we build tall apartment blocks in a plaza, then it will take less time to complete it because all the labour will work together in one place and it will also saves our money and time because it is hard to provide different homes in large cities.
Furhtermore, i would like say that building homes at different locations is little hard. As it requires to do more work. Like we have to go and meet different property dealers for the required location. For example: If we build homes at different locations we could not be able to complete this project on time because we would need a large number of workers that is difficult to find. So i think that build homes at different location is to as like as a fish without water.
So, i strongly agree with the statement that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks because it will release our stress of completing work on time. It also saves our money, time and labour cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response sits at this band because it addresses the task only minimally. First, it must be noted that the response falls short of the required minimum of 250 words, coming in at 227 words. Furthermore, 48 words copied directly from the task prompt were not counted. While the writer expresses a clear position of strong agreement, the ideas presented are extremely limited and under-developed. The arguments rely on repetitive assertions about saving time and money rather than exploring broader urban planning, economic, or social implications of tall apartment blocks. Examples provided, such as comparing the project to 'a fish without water' or talking about buying a plaza to build in it, are confused, overly simplistic, and tangential to the core issues of urban housing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
Cohesion and coherence are at this level because there is some basic organisation, but the progression of ideas is frequently hindered by mechanical and repetitive use of cohesive devices. Paragraphing is attempted, with a basic introduction, body paragraphs marked by transitions like 'Firstly' and 'Furhtermore', and a conclusion starting with 'So'. However, referencing and logical flow are weak. For example, sentences within the body paragraphs are disjointed, such as abrupt shifts when introducing examples ('For example: If we build tall apartment blocks...'). The overall arrangement lacks a smooth, logical progression, and the repetitive reliance on basic conjunctions prevents the essay from achieving a higher level of cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on words like 'homes', 'tall apartment blocks', 'money', and 'time'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations that reflect a lack of precision, such as 'saves our money and time', 'doing paperwork of land ownership', and the idiomatic misuse 'build homes at different location is to as like as a fish without water'. While the reader can generally grasp the intended meaning, the restricted range of vocabulary and frequent lexical inaccuracies constrain the response, preventing it from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range and accuracy reflect a limited variety of sentence structures, with frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. The writer relies heavily on simple sentence forms, and attempts at complex structures are often faulty in construction or punctuation. Examples of grammatical issues include subject-verb agreement errors and misuse of modal verbs and infinitives, such as 'Because we could not need to find', 'As it requires to purchase', 'that is difficult to find', and 'build homes at different location'. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with inappropriate colon usage before examples. These frequent errors across basic patterns keep the grammar score at this specific level.
