Student answer (Band 6.0)

Providing enough housing for people in major cities has become a major challenge due to rapid population growth. Some people belive that constructing tall building appartment is the best solution to this problrm. I firmly agree with that becuase it can conjust a huge number of individuals using less land. Although it also have some disadvantages.

To begin with, the main advantage of tall apartments is that they can provide housing for a large number of people in liited area. Land in major cities are usually expensive and scare, so constructing high rise biulding can be benefical for low income families. For example,, people who in lives in big cities like karachi, delhi, islamabad, they usually live in multi story building because it is buget friendly and aparments are often constructed in city centre, so individuals can easily acces to their work or other work. In Addition, multi story buildings can also help government to preserve open spaces and agriculture land outside the city.

However, relaying too heavily on multi story building can create several problem. A high concentration of people may put pressure on public transport, roads, hospitals and schools. Additionally, high rise buildings development can make resident feel isolated and limited access to outdoor space to children. Therefore, cities should not only focus on constructing high rise building. A better approach would be combine multi story building with proper infrastructure parks and efficient public transport. Moreover, low rise housing can be effective, especially in limited crowded areas.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that tall buildings can be benfeical for low background people can it can adjust a large amount of people inl limited area. Nevertheless, if they should be carefully planned and supported by adquate public amenities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, which is a strong feature meeting the criteria for the higher band. The main ideas are relevant, such as discussing population growth, land preservation, and the strain on public infrastructure. However, certain points remain somewhat under-developed or lack full extension. For instance, the mention that children might have limited access to outdoor space is introduced in the third paragraph but not fully explored or exemplified. Similarly, the counter-arguments regarding infrastructure pressure are briefly listed rather than deeply analysed. Overall, the ideas presented are sufficient for the task and reflect a clear stance on the prompt, showing the solid foundation of the given band alongside glimpses of more extended reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear logical progression throughout the response. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, dividing the introduction, the main advantages, the counter-arguments, and the conclusion into distinct blocks. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions between ideas, such as "To begin with", "However", and "In conclusion". Nevertheless, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty in referencing, such as the abrupt shift in the final paragraph starting with "if they should be carefully planned" where the pronoun antecedent is slightly unclear. The flow is generally logical and easy to follow, successfully satisfying the expectations of the band while demonstrating organizational control that hints at higher-level cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as "preserve open spaces", "budget friendly", and "infrastructure". However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect the limitations of the current band, including "belive", "appartment", "problrm", "conjust", "liited", "scare", "biulding", "benefical", "accnes", "relaying", and "benfeical". While these errors occur frequently throughout the text, they rarely impede overall communication because the context remains clear. To achieve a higher score, the writer would need to eliminate spelling mistakes and demonstrate greater precision and flexibility in word choice and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("Land in major cities are usually..."), article omissions ("in city centre"), incorrect prepositions or verb forms ("people who in lives in"), and punctuation slips like double commas ("For example,,"). Despite these frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation, they rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the sentences can still be followed by the reader. The structural range remains somewhat restricted, and tackling more complex sentence patterns with greater accuracy would be necessary to progress further.
