Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, construction of high altitude buildings for apartments is a common trend in big cities. I completely agree with this advancement as it provides people with residential areas near workplaces and conserves the agricultural lands and biodiversity.

First and foremost, I think this would be a good idea to make taller buildings in the big cities as it would provides people with apartments near their workplaces. This is mainly because most of the workers in big cities are from small towns, and they have to migrate with their families in the big cities. However, there is a drawback that it would leads to the more pollution and traffic problems in larger cities due to very dense population. For instance, in New York, there are a large number of buildings with apartments which leads to the high population and pollution.

Furthermore, the idea of constructing tall buildings will helps to conserve the agricultural land near the cities which often merged into them gradually.

This idea mainly conserves the agricultural land as people have enough space to live in the central regions of the city rhere they have access to everything. In addition, it also protects the biodiversity of fena flora living in the farmlands or forests near the city. A good illustration of this is, a Pakistani city, Lahore which is expanding rigorously and eliminating the all evidences of agricultural lands near its surrounding. Once Lahore was known as city of gardens but now it is hard to find a single garden of 10 hectres area. Therefore, I believe that this initiative will definitely protects the environment by reducing fuel consumptions and leaving spaces for biodiversity.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that this idea of tall buildings will helps us in protecting our environment. This provides fuel savings, conservation of agricultural land and protection of biodiversity that ultimately makes humans environmentally friendly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear position throughout in agreement with the statement. The writer extends relevant ideas regarding proximity to workplaces, agricultural conservation, and biodiversity, which earns solid credit at this level. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or briefly stated, particularly the counter-argument regarding pollution and traffic in New York, which is introduced then dropped rather than fully weighed against the main position. To move towards a higher band, the writer would need to fully develop all supporting arguments with more comprehensive explanations rather than generalizing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving logically from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing workplaces and environmental conservation, followed by a summary conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel mechanical or repetitive, such as starting multiple paragraphs with variations of 'this idea'. Progression is generally clear, but smoother transitional links between sentences would enhance the overall flow to reach the next tier of organization.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating sufficient range to communicate basic concepts such as 'biodiversity', 'agricultural land', and 'residential areas'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items, but these are sometimes affected by inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and form, such as 'high altitude buildings' instead of 'high-rise buildings' and 'fena flora' instead of 'fauna and flora'. There are also minor spelling slips like 'rhere' instead of 'where' and 'consumptions'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but eliminating them and using more precise terminology is necessary for higher lexical bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues such as 'this would leads', 'building will helps', and 'initiative will definitely protects'. Article and preposition errors also occur, such as 'in the big cities' and 'eliminating the all evidences'. Despite these errors, the structures are varied enough to maintain clarity, and the mistakes rarely impede communication. To improve, the writer needs greater control over verb forms and grammatical patterns.
