Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's period most of the educated person are preferring to live in the tall buildings appartment due to the shortage of land and convenience. I firmly agree with the statement below because, there are many people suffuring to buy there own hose in urban area .

The key benefits of this kind of practise is it save the land from being wastage by making different kind of houses. If we make a tall appartment then other land can be used for various purposes like farming and making industries. This kind of practise will also save the country expenses in making different kinds of like break and concrete which is used to make different houses. It will save the environment also because to make various factories have to produce less amount of materials required to make houses. For instance, in nepal many trees have been destructed to make different places of accomodation so, Nepal Forest Ministery make different kind of rules and regulations to controll it. It also provide easy essable to the accomodation if the person wants to live in urban places. It hepls to manage a huge amount of growing population in the urban areas.

Despite, certain advantages there few drawbacks of tall buildings like these kind of practise is not essable to all places due to certain circumstances. The main aspects is geography and the frequent occurance natural clamities. Many places of hilly regions of Nepal is not suitable for tall buildings because their land can't hold tall buildings. Similarly, the country like japan where frequent earthquake happen then there small building should be made.

In conclusion, it has both the advantages like saving land, cost efficient, ecofriendly by reducing the material production and disadvanges like geography and natural clamities. In my opinion, the advantages outweight the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, stating a definite agreement with the prompt that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as saving land for farming and managing growing urban populations. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, and certain points tend to be under-developed or somewhat repetitive, such as the discussion on environmental benefits and construction costs. Furthermore, there is a tendency to over-generalise regarding the specific impacts in countries like Nepal and Japan. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all main arguments with deeper explanations and more precise examples rather than shifting rapidly between disparate points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical four-paragraph structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Basic cohesive devices and transitional phrases are used, but referencing is not always clear, leading to occasional abrupt transitions between sentences and ideas, such as moving from Nepalese forestry rules directly to urban accessibility without a smooth bridge. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow within paragraphs can feel disjointed due to mechanical linking words. To improve, the writer should focus on creating a clearer overall progression of ideas by employing a wider variety of referencing pronouns and more sophisticated, flexible cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common vocabulary such as 'convenience', 'shortage', 'accommodations', and 'geography'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the response, such as 'appartment', 'suffuring', 'hose', 'practise' (used instead of practice/practices), 'essable' (accessible), 'clamities' (calamities), and 'outweight'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the score. To progress to a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and improve control over spelling, word forms, and natural collocations to ensure precision in expressing ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response utilizes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures through conditional clauses and relative clauses. There are, however, frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'most of the educated person are', 'Ministry make'), articles (e.g., 'in urban area', 'a country like japan where frequent earthquake happen then there small building should be made'), pluralisation, and prepositional patterns. While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede overall communication. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences by exercising better control over tense consistency, article usage, and complex clause structures.
