Student answer (Band 6.5)
As population continues to grown in cities, people are arguing that to provide best accommodation, it is easy to build tall sky scrapers blocks so large number of resident can stay in a single building. I largely agree with this statement because nowadays due to increasing population, there is less land to build house with nice garden and big parking. Instead of doing this, that land can be utlise to build block of tall apartment where many residents can stay together.
On one hand, the advantage of building an apartment is that they make efficient use of limited land. In densely populated cities, land is extremly expensive and scarce. By constructing apartments with many floors in it can helps people stay in single block without the need of exessive amount of land. It can also help in preventing expansion to natural habitant zone and agricultural land. For instance, cities like mumbai and pune are already working on plans like this to provide enough accommodation while preserving valuable land. Furthermore, If new buildings can be build near work place and transport area then it can lower the need of using private vehicles and also contribute to less polution.
On the other hand, building tall apartments are not the complete solution. Over populated cities can lead to overcrowded places, traffic, polution etc. In addition, in cities like this people with families often prefer to stay in and larger house with open area especially a family with children. Therefor, goverment should also focus on building low-rise apartments near suburban area and imrpove infrastructure.
In conclusion, I believe that tall buildings is an effective way to accommodate in densely populated cities and preserve valuable lands from exploting but with that, it is also neccessary to plan it accordingly rather than justing taking it as a temparory solution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position throughout. The main argument is that tall apartment blocks are the best solution to urban housing shortages while preserving valuable land. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as mentioning the efficient use of limited land and citing examples like Mumbai and Pune. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in certain sections, and some arguments, such as the mention of traffic and pollution, are introduced on the other hand without being fully elaborated. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to ensure that all introduced points receive equal depth of extension and support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
There is a clear logical organisation and progression throughout the essay. The response follows a traditional and effective structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used flexibly, such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which successfully guide the reader through the writer's line of reasoning. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring that each paragraph has a central topic. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer could make referencing even more seamless and avoid minor mechanical transitions between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common lexical items such as 'densely populated', 'scarce', and 'accommodation'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, including 'grown' instead of 'growing', 'sky scrapers blocks' instead of 'skyscraper blocks', 'utlise' instead of 'utilize', 'exessive' instead of 'excessive', 'habitant zone' instead of 'habitat zone', 'polution' instead of 'pollution', 'Therefor' instead of 'Therefore', 'goverment' instead of 'government', 'imrpove' instead of 'improve', 'exploting' instead of 'exploiting', and 'justing' instead of 'just'. These errors show that while communication is not impeded, lexical control is currently limited by recurrent spelling and morphological inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text, such as missing articles ('to build house with nice garden'), incorrect verb forms ('If new buildings can be build'), and prepositional errors. Although these errors rarely impede communication, they prevent the text from achieving a higher level of grammatical accuracy. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, article usage, and ensuring that passive voice structures are grammatically complete.
