Student answer (Band 5.5)

The increasing population is a hot topic to discuss. As increase in population requires more space to live which result in building more residential area. Some people like to live in apartments wheras some love to have a individual homes. But keeping in mind about the population the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I do agree with this statement as it is the need of time.

Firstly, the large cities provide work space to a lot of people. And in search of work people migrate in the large cities. But city does not have enough space to build commercial, industrial and residential setups for everyone. To fulfill the demand of each sector the government have to plan things wisely. Building tall apartment blocks are more efficient as ot requires less space which in turn reduce deforestation as well as deceasing agricultural land as well.

For instance, My city is expanding its boundaries and for this they are cutting down the forests and capturing the agricultural land for different purpose such as moving the bus stand out of the city to reduce the city rush they captured the agriculture land and also making new residential society for providing homes to the increasing population .

Overall, cutting the forests or clearing the agricultural land to provide home to the people can be reduced upto some extent by building tall apartment blocks rather than making new residential societies. I recommend, if government makes a plan to build city before cutting down forest or clearing the agricultural land is appreciable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

It is important to note first that the length requirement is NOT met, as the response contains only 249 words, which is one word short of the 250-word minimum, with 16 words copied directly from the task prompt excluded from the count. Regarding task response, the essay addresses the task only partially. Your position is stated at the beginning and the end, but the development of your ideas is limited and under-developed. For example, while you mention that tall apartment blocks are more efficient and reduce deforestation, the explanation remains superficial without exploring alternative viewpoints in depth. To move up, you need to fully extend and support your ideas with more thorough reasoning and clear examples that directly relate to the prompt, while ensuring you comfortably meet the word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is some overall organization to your writing, and you attempt to guide the reader using transition words such as 'Firstly' and 'For instance'. However, the logical progression is at times disrupted by mechanical or repetitive use of cohesive devices, and referencing is not always clear, such as in the sentence 'for this they are cutting down the forests'. Paragraphing is used, but the flow between sentences can feel abrupt. To achieve a higher band, you need to ensure a clear logical progression throughout the entire essay, managing your cohesive devices more flexibly and ensuring that referencing within and between sentences is consistently precise and smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'deforestation' and 'residential', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'wheras', 'individual homes' instead of an individual home, 'ot' instead of 'it', and 'deceasing' instead of decreasing. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty or hesitation for the reader. To improve your lexical score, you should expand your range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to precise word forms, spelling, and natural collocations, avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You demonstrate a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic forms alongside a few attempts at complex sentences. These attempts at complex structures are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in grammar, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include 'As increase in population requires', 'the government have to plan', and 'Building tall apartment blocks are more efficient'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To progress, you need to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater control, producing more frequent error-free sentences and ensuring accurate punctuation and agreement.
