Student answer (Band 5.0)

The following statement is about to provide homes in large cities is to build tall appartments blocks.

I am going to discuss it with both point of view. I am agree with this statement that in large cities there will be tall appartments block for living. There are many socities in cities which have very large appartments. Some people don't have enough money to buy a house so they live in appartment according to their family capacity, because in many cities people came from different cities for job and they can not buy their house so they suggest to live in a appartment. In appartment there are different size of room for both large and small family. You can live easily in appartment. Also these appartments consume small space as compare to build many houses.

On other hand in some words i am disagree with this statement, because in appartment there is no enough space you have only fixed place for rooms, kitchen and washroom. In Pakistan mostly appartments don't have emergency exit in case of any critical situation. You can buy a small house in any society according to your budget. In Pakistan different cities have different value and their price is also in budget. You can buy house and also can build new house.

So the conclusion is that you can live in appartment or you can buy house according to your budget where you can live easily and feel comfortable. It's up to your choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response only partially addresses the prompt and falls short of the word count requirement, coming in at 240 words (not counting 8 words copied directly from the prompt). The writer attempts to discuss both points of view regarding tall apartment blocks, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed, relying on brief, repetitive assertions about cost and space without sufficient elaboration or concrete examples. Furthermore, the position is not always clearly maintained throughout the essay, as the writer shifts back and forth without a strong central argument. To move to a higher band, the essay would need to fully develop all parts of the task with extended explanations, richer examples, and ensure the word count requirement is fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response displays some basic organisation, utilizing paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, opposing views, and conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the transition between paragraphs feels abrupt. Cohesive devices are either inadequate or repetitive, with phrases like 'On other hand' and basic connectors used mechanically. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun use that leaves the reader uncertain about the specific nouns being referenced. To achieve a higher band, the writer must implement a clearer logical progression throughout the text and employ a wider, more accurate variety of cohesive devices to link sentences and paragraphs smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic thoughts. The vocabulary is repetitive, relying heavily on everyday words like 'appartment', 'house', 'city', and 'money'. There are noticeable spelling errors ('appartments', 'socities') and word choice inaccuracies that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some basic descriptive words, but higher-level or less common vocabulary is largely absent. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to incorporate a wider range of appropriate vocabulary, including less common lexical items and collocations, while significantly improving spelling accuracy and precision in word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional, mostly faulty attempts at complex forms. Frequent errors are present in verb tenses, articles, plurals, and prepositions, such as 'I am agree', 'in appartment', and 'people came from different cities for job'. These frequent errors and awkward phrasings cause some difficulty for the reader. Punctuation is also basic and occasionally problematic. To progress to a higher band, the writer must produce a greater variety of complex sentence structures with control, and significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors across verb forms, articles, and agreement.
