Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response is significantly below the required length, containing only 130 words against the minimum 250-word requirement, with 11 words copied directly from the prompt not counted. Because the response is so short, it responds to the task only minimally and tangentially. The writer attempts to express a position regarding tall apartment blocks, stating 'I totally disagree with this statement,' but the ideas remain heavily underdeveloped. The explanation for why the writer disagrees focuses narrowly on personal privacy issues, such as neighbors seeing large purchases like a car or furniture, rather than addressing broader urban planning, population density, or housing supply issues. Consequently, the development lacks depth and extension, keeping the response at a minimal level of task fulfilment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The information and ideas are not arranged coherently across the text. The response consists of a single large block of writing or poorly managed segmentation that fails to show a clear overall progression. While the writer uses basic cohesive markers such as 'for instance' and 'furthermore,' referencing and logical flow are frequently faulty. For example, the transition from discussing rural migration and congested land directly into personal privacy lacks a logical thread. Paragraphing is absent or inadequate, as the text runs together multiple distinct points—urban congestion, privacy concerns regarding large purchases, and cultural festivals—without distinct structural divisions to guide the reader through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing simple everyday words that strain the reader at times due to inaccuracies in word choice and spelling. The writer uses terms such as 'conjusting' (instead of congesting), 'porsion' (instead of portion), and 'enviro' (incomplete word). Word choices are often imprecise, such as 'everyone will making different festival,' which fails to use natural collocations. While there is a minimal attempt to use less common vocabulary like 'congesting' and 'privacy,' the numerous errors in spelling and word formation restrict communication and place the lexical range firmly within a basic category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent errors that distort meaning. There are multiple instances of basic grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'many people thinks,' incorrect article usage, and faulty verb forms such as 'built 2 porsion house' and 'everyone will making.' Complex sentence structures are attempted, such as conditional or participial clauses, but they are consistently faulty, as seen in 'owning a land and built 2 porsion house in city give them comfort.' Punctuation and capitalization are also neglected throughout the text, contributing to frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader.
