Student answer (Band 5.0)

The best way to provide enough homes in urban areas is to build tall apartment blocks because some argue that this is true because it is cheap and there are a lot of tourism places but i disagree because the disadvantages of tall apartment blocks outweigh its advantage.

firstly, Tall apartment helps to accommodate more people in the city because in big cities this is a big challenge for them because there are a lot of individuals who lives there the house rents are cheap and budget friendly even individuals who migrate into the area as well there by making the environment crowdy .

further more, while we have looked at the advantages what are the disadvantages of this firstly, not everyone like tall apartment it can be sicomforting and is not good for ones mental , social , and physical health for example when there are too much tall apartment during heat season it will be a discomfort to memebers living there as this will make the natural air hot and unhealthy. in addition, tall apartment blocks brings a lot of social hazard for example pollution. where many people are residing there is usual poor hygiene becaue is usually difficult to manage , as you know to control a group of people is really challenging and nobody will love to take up the responsiblity as everyone are claiming that they are bigger than the authority. Also in urban areas where tall apartment are usually built there is many unstructured buildings because they are rushing for quantity instead of quality and in tge process they end up not giving a satisfactory choice of the people.

In conclusion, providing enough homes in urban areas that are too tall is not the best i think 2 quality building is better than 5 big tall apartment so the solution to this is to reduce the way they build tall apartment so as to improve the living life style of individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, attempting to present a position that disagrees with the statement. However, the position is not always clearly maintained, as the introduction states that people argue it is cheap and there are tourist places, leading to some confusion about the writer's stance. The main ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on disadvantages mentions comfort, mental health, and social hazards like pollution, but these points lack proper expansion and specific supporting evidence beyond vague assertions. The response also includes a small amount of borrowed language from the prompt, which is noted during evaluation. To reach the next level, the writer needs to ensure a fully clear and consistent position throughout, and extend the main ideas with well-developed supporting examples and explanations rather than relying on brief, generalised claims.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates some organisation, such as attempting to divide ideas into paragraphs with transitional phrases like 'firstly' and 'In conclusion'. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, as seen with the multiple uses of 'firstly' and 'further more' which do not connect ideas smoothly. Paragraphing is also poorly managed; the main body section is presented as a single, overly dense block of text that mixes disparate points about health, pollution, and building quality together. For improvement, the writer should use a wider variety of accurate cohesive ties, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, distinct central topic, and structure the response to guide the reader logically from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic and repetitive words, such as 'big', 'people', 'good', and 'bad', while attempts at less common vocabulary often result in noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'sicomforting', 'crowdy', and 'living life style'. Spelling errors are also present, including 'memebers', 'becaue', and 'tge', which occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact meaning. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common and more precise vocabulary, pay closer attention to word forms and collocations, and carefully proofread the text to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence boundaries, including run-on sentences, missing punctuation, and incorrect capitalization, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters like 'firstly'. Errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage are also frequent, for instance, 'tall apartment helps' and 'there is many unstructured buildings'. These frequent grammatical errors cause noticeable difficulty and strain for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical structures, ensure correct agreement between subjects and verbs, use proper punctuation to separate distinct clauses, and incorporate complex sentence forms accurately.
