Student answer (Band 5.5)

In modern times, the mind of people has changed with the passage of time in terms of living standard. Developed countries build the tall apartment blocks rather home in large cities. I strongly agree to build apartment blocks in large cities.

I am agree to build tall apartment blocks in large cities due to some reasons. First of all, Pakistan is an agriculture country. People depends on agriculture sector rather than industrial sector. If government does not control to build the home in large cities then they face the food crisis. Because agriculture land is shrinked in big cities due to urbanization. People comes to big cities for improving the living standard in the fields of education, healthcare and jobs. Jobs are more in big cities. This type of urbanization is very dangerous for a developing country. In addition, tall apartment blocks discourage the homes pattern in developed cities. Tall apartment covers very small space. It is fruitful form both agriculture sector and developing economies.

Developed countries build tall apartments to their nationalities. For instance, China, Singapore and India follow the same pattern in capital cities. They constructed the tall apartment blocks and discourage the pattern of large home.

In short, China is the best example for the developing countries. China caters the food crisis and export food to all over the world by building the tall apartment blocks. The government of Pakistan should ban constructing of the new colony and adoption the pattern of develped country in terms of tall apartment blocks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance in strong agreement with building tall apartment blocks in large cities. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed throughout the essay. While the writer attempts to connect urbanization to agricultural land loss in Pakistan, the arguments are repetitive and lack sufficient supporting evidence or broader perspective. Points regarding economic growth and international examples like China and Singapore are mentioned, but they are not fully elaborated. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to expand on their main ideas with more fully developed explanations and relevant, detailed examples rather than relying on brief, generalized statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic organization to the essay with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a short conclusion, providing some overall coherence. However, there is a lack of clear progression, and the logical flow between sentences is frequently disjointed. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically or repetitively, such as starting multiple sentences with 'First of all,' 'In addition,' and 'In short.' Referencing and paragraph transitions also need more control to guide the reader smoothly through the argument. To improve, the writer should ensure that ideas follow on logically from one another and employ a wider, more natural range of cohesive links without overusing formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation. Examples include phrases like 'mind of people has changed', 'agriculture country', 'agriculture land is shrinked', and 'discourage the homes pattern'. There are also awkward lexical combinations such as 'cater the food crisis'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and show a restricted range of vocabulary. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to correct word forms and derivations, and use collocation more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting complex or compound structures. There are numerous grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement errors such as 'People depends' and 'People comes', preposition errors like 'agree to build' instead of 'agree with building', and missing articles. The sentence 'I am agree to build' contains a basic structural mistake. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation cause considerable difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to increase grammatical accuracy across a wider variety of sentence patterns and carefully check basic rules of tense, agreement, and prepositions.
