Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response only minimally addresses the task prompt regarding whether tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes in large cities. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 199 words, falling well short of the 250-word minimum. The writer's position is barely discernible in fragments like 'So I agree the satement to live the large cities.' Ideas are extremely limited and under-developed, focusing randomly on city facilities such as computer labs, food streets, and shopping malls rather than systematically discussing housing solutions or the specific implications of vertical living. To improve, the writer must fully address all parts of the prompt with extended, relevant ideas and meet the minimum word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently, which severely restricts the flow of the response. Although basic sequencing words like 'First of all' and 'Secondly' are attempted, the overall progression is disjointed and difficult to follow. Paragraphing is haphazard, and sentences lack clear logical links. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard for the reader to track the relationships between ideas. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to organise ideas into logical paragraphs with clear topic sentences and use appropriate cohesive devices to establish a smooth and transparent progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently straining the reader's comprehension. The text relies heavily on simple words and exhibits numerous word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'aviliable', 'enviroment', 'amnd', 'beautifull', and 'ofd option'. Less common lexical items are attempted awkwardly, leading to unnatural collocations like 'best ofd option of the students'. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, learn correct word forms and spellings, and use precise phrasing appropriate for an academic context, such as employing accurate terminology when discussing urban development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting almost entirely of fragmented or poorly constructed simple sentences. Errors are frequent across articles, verb forms, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement, such as in 'The large cities is veruy helpfull' and 'the provige the large apartments'. These persistent grammatical lapses distort meaning and cause significant difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate control over basic sentence patterns, ensure proper subject-verb agreement, and incorporate accurate complex structures with fewer foundational errors.
