Student answer (Band 5.5)

The effective to provide homes in metropolitan cities is to construct huge apartments. In my opinion, I agree that this is the one way to tackle the problem, but having individual homes must also be taken into consideration.

Building appartments is a useful way for providing homes for the increased population in the urban cities because it accomodates for more number of people. For instance, in a multi storyed appartment there are roughly 20 floors which can easily accomdate nearly 100 families. Thereby, it consumes less space and provides shelther to large group of individiuals. In most of the cities like Hyderabad, Banglore and Delhi people choose appartments bacause they are convinent and can easily accomodate thier families with all neccesary facilties.

Another point to consider is that constructing appartments contributes to development. Usually many appartments were build in the main areas of the city which helps to find home for most the people working nearby. For example if an area is built with huge appartments there were chances of building few malls and others shops which can in turn leads to development.

However, building appartments can reduce the issue of consuming space but its not effective enough on its own. Having individual home is a dream for many individuals and it is considered as one of the important aspect in their life which gives them peace. Now a days with the advancements in the technology building individual home within the less space is possible. For example building home in less than 60 square feet with all the neccesisty requirements is the latest trend.

In Conclusion, appartments reduces the space and improve the city there are few people who still prefer individual homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position regarding the prompt, as seen in the statement "In my opinion, I agree that this is the one way to tackle the problem, but having individual homes must also be taken into consideration." Relevant ideas are presented, such as how tall apartment blocks accommodate more people and contribute to urban development, while also discussing the cultural preference for individual homes. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the advantages of apartments are supported with examples like multi-story buildings in Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Delhi, the counterargument regarding individual houses is somewhat under-developed and lacks robust supporting detail. To reach a higher level, all main ideas would need more thorough extension and consistent depth throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the argument through paragraphs, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing advantages and limitations, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are generally linked, employing basic cohesive devices such as "For instance," "Another point to consider," and "However." Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, referencing and logical transitions between sentences can be slightly disjointed, and the transitional phrasing in the conclusion ("appartments reduces the space and improve the city there are few people who still prefer individual homes") lacks smooth integration. Paragraphing is used, but transitions between the competing views could be managed with greater flexibility and clarity to achieve a more unified flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to urban living, such as "metropolitan cities," "increased population," and "urban development." However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, including "appartments," "accomdate," "shelther," "individiuals," "convinent," "neccesary," and "neccesisty." Additionally, some phrasal and collocational choices are slightly unnatural, such as "The effective to provide homes" instead of an effective way to provide homes. These errors do not seriously impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score because precision and control are inconsistent. Expanding the range of vocabulary and eliminating spelling inaccuracies would elevate the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning ("if an area is built with huge appartments there were chances of building few malls..."). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ("appartments reduces," "there were chances"), article omissions ("building individual home"), and awkward phrasing ("more number of people"). However, these errors rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the sentences remains generally clear to the reader. To move towards a higher standard, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate better control over articles, plurals, and verb forms.
