Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, problem of housing has elevated in many big cities and people do not find a place to live. People want their homes at the prime location of city, where each and every facility is available. To solve this issue, people suggust to construct tall apartment block. In my opinion, this can be the best solution for this issue.
There are numerous reasons which make flats a best choice for providing enough residental areas to the influx of people migrating to large cities for better living and future. Every year, people move to metropoliten cities in seach of employment and the first thing they need is a shelter. Moreover, population is increasing day by day, therefore, goverment opt options like flats and apartments for full-filling the demand of houses. All over the world, big cities like New York and London have huge building accomodating thousands of the people at the same time.
Instead of this option, if we build separate home for solving this issue, it would lead to the more garve problems like global warming and air pollution. For building individual houses, we required more land and for that forests and agricultural areashave to be destroyed. This cannot be a good approch to solve this problem.
Therefore, I clearly believe that apartment blocks are the best choice of solving housing issues in big cities. By opting this option not only we can allow people to enjoy the comfort of a home but alongside, we can save our environment from further distruction.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing with the statement that tall apartment blocks are the best solution for housing shortages. Main ideas are relevant, such as discussing population influx, urban migration, and environmental preservation. However, some ideas remain under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the point about cities like New York and London is introduced but not thoroughly explained in relation to the prompt, and the environmental argument regarding land preservation lacks deeper elaboration. This positions the essay comfortably at the mid-level, where ideas are present and relevant, but further extension and support for each main point would be required to reach the next band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-topic, such as the causes of urban migration, government responses, and environmental impacts. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas together, though referencing and transitional phrases are sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'Moreover' and 'Therefore'. While the organization ensures the reader can follow the argument without difficulty, achieving a higher band would require a more flexible and varied use of cohesive devices and smoother transitions between paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their thoughts clearly. There are attempts to use less common items and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'influx', 'metropolitan', and 'environmental preservation'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'suggust' instead of 'suggest', 'residental' instead of 'residential', 'garve' instead of 'grave', and 'approch' instead of 'approach'. Furthermore, some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'opt options'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they reflect the characteristics of this band level where lexical control is inconsistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and conditional-style constructions. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omission ('problem of housing', 'in city'), preposition misuse ('choice of solving' instead of 'choice for solving'), and pluralization issues ('thousands of the people'). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and meaning remains clear throughout the response. To move to a higher band, the writer would need to demonstrate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and greater accuracy in articles and prepositions.
