Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that the best approach to provide a considerable amount of homes in large cities is to establish tall buildings block. I totally agree with this view because they provide not only sufficient housing for growing urban population, but also reduced the amount of land required.
These days a substantial proportion of population migrate from countryside to large cities. Therefore the demand of enough housing are increasing day by day. If large cities have a enough amount of tall builiding, it would be much easier for those people who are willing of migration. For instance, government of pakistan has been starting to construct building for many years for the convenience of migrated people. Therefore, tall buildings can provide adequate housing for large number of people.
Another main point for my agreement is that large buildings can reduce the amount of land required for enough housing, which helps government to utilise these land spaces for other purposes as well, such as for hospitals, schools and shopping malls. This approach can benefit people, children and government economy. For instance, the construction of tall buildings not required other homes in one area that can help people or government to utilize this space for their purpose.
In conclusion, Although some people often argue that tall builiding can provide enough housing facilities in large cities, I totally agree with this statement because tall apartments can help migrated people come from countryside to cities and provide them enough hosuing facilities, and also it reduces the amount of land required, which can utilize for other facilities such as schools and hospitals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, stating complete agreement with the prompt. Relevant ideas are introduced regarding housing the urban population and saving land for other facilities like hospitals and schools. However, some ideas are under-developed or repetitive, such as the second main body paragraph which heavily relies on general statements about land utilisation without sufficient specific support or elaboration. Examples provided, such as mentioning the government of Pakistan, are somewhat vague and lack detailed explanation. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all main ideas with more fully developed explanations and precise examples rather than restating the same concepts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion, bridging fully into higher organizational qualities. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct central topic. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'These days', 'Therefore', and 'Another main point', showing logical linking. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in repetitive transitional phrasing like 'Therefore' at the start of consecutive sentences. Additionally, the conclusion mistakenly re-argues points rather than simply summarising them. To secure a higher band, the writer should ensure a wider variety of cohesive devices are used more flexibly and seamlessly without relying on repetitive formulas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'considerable amount', 'substantial proportion', and 'urban population'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text, including 'establish tall buildings block' instead of 'blocks of tall flats', 'builiding' as a spelling error, 'willing of migration' instead of 'willing to migrate', and 'not required' instead of 'do not require'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited precision in lexical control. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and demonstrate greater accuracy in word formation and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional clauses ('If large cities have... it would be much easier...') and relative clauses. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the demand of enough housing are increasing', 'government of pakistan has been starting'), article misuse ('a enough amount'), and prepositional errors. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To improve to a higher band, the writer needs to produce more frequent error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over complex grammatical structures and agreement rules.
