Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance against building tall apartment blocks, suggesting proper land-use planning instead. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the link between improper government planning and social degradation leading to crime is stated broadly without sufficient supporting evidence or clear examples from your own knowledge or experience. While you present a position throughout the essay, the arguments tend to loop back to general statements about government bodies and housing rather than thoroughly exploring the consequences of skyscrapers versus land planning. To move towards a higher standard, ensure that every main idea is extended with specific explanations and well-contextualised examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organization, with paragraphs introduced to separate different arguments, such as social consequences and environmental degradation. Nevertheless, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the arrangement of ideas can feel somewhat repetitive. Cohesive devices are sometimes used inaccurately or mechanically, and punctuation errors around transitions interfere with smooth reading, such as in phrases like 'Admiteddly,it is clear that, building more'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, leaving the reader to deduce how certain clauses connect. To achieve a stronger flow, you should utilize a wider and more accurate range of cohesive markers and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one without circling back to the same points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey a basic argument regarding housing and urban development. There are noticeable lexical errors, including spelling mistakes such as 'Admiteddly' and 'definetely', alongside awkward word choices and collocations like 'breaking the bread' or 'dehydration issues' in the context of cutting trees. These errors do cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary. To improve your lexical score, focus on eliminating basic spelling mistakes, learning accurate word forms, and incorporating precise, less common items related to urban planning and sociology naturally within your sentences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing relies on a limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in punctuation, spacing, and subject-verb agreement throughout the text, such as 'the people who lives in slums' and numerous missing spaces after commas and periods. Furthermore, awkward phrasing stems from grammatical control issues in patterns like 'keeping in consideration'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, you should aim to diversify your sentence patterns while carefully monitoring basic agreement rules, punctuation spacing, and accurate clause construction to ensure clearer communication.
