Student answer (Band 6.0)
Large cities is growing in population as the time is passing by, resulting in overcrowded cities which means more people and the need of more accomodation. To provide enough homes, tall apartment blocks are being built in large cities to fulfill this need.
Building tall apartment blocks is a way to fulfill this requirement as the tall apartment blocks is managed in a way that it can accomodate a large amount of people in a small land area. People can have access to different facilities included in that building and it also gives people an oppurtunity to socialize more. Tall apartment blocks also adds to the beauty of the infrastructure of the city.
Besides the advantages there are a lot of disadvantages of a tall apartment building too, if so many people are living in an apartment block they can face many issues like parking space, water shortage etc for example coming home after a long day at work you have to find a parking spot which is very frustrating. Besides that, hundreds of people in the same apartment block using water everyday can lead to water shortage in that apartment block if not managed well.
In my opinion, it is still a best way to build tall apartment blocks to provide enough homes because apartment blocks are well managed and takes less space compared to separate homes on land for example if we build separate homes on land the city will expand more creating unneccesary traffic problems and complicated roads.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of tall apartment blocks and providing a clear overall position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the second paragraph touches upon community facilities and socialization, and the third paragraph mentions parking and water shortages, these ideas are somewhat generalized and lack fully elaborated supporting examples. For instance, the mention of parking and water shortages is brief and could be extended with more specific contextual scenarios to push the response into a more thoroughly developed band. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of extension for each supporting point keeps the task response profile securely at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from population growth to benefits, drawbacks, and finally a personal conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct themes, such as putting advantages in the second paragraph and disadvantages in the third. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or basic, relying on simple connectors like 'Besides the advantages' and 'Besides that'. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally repetitive, and sentences within paragraphs could be linked more fluidly to ensure a smoother transition of information. Overall, the organizational structure is logical, but the management of cohesive devices needs greater flexibility and variety.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'infrastructure', 'frustrating', and 'unnecessary'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect limitations in lexical precision, such as 'accomodation' instead of 'accommodation', 'oppurtunity' instead of 'opportunity', and 'lands' or phrase choices like 'separate homes on land'. These vocabulary slips and spelling inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher lexical band. Greater control over word formation and common academic collocations is needed to improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at multi-clause structures such as conditional and reason clauses. However, there are some persistent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and singular/plural forms. Examples include 'Large cities is growing' instead of 'are growing', and 'the tall apartment blocks is managed' instead of 'are managed'. Additionally, punctuation is sometimes sparse, leading to run-on structures like in the final paragraph where multiple clauses are joined with commas. These errors occur regularly throughout the text, but because they rarely impede overall communication, the writing aligns well with a mixed-accuracy profile containing both correct simple sentences and faulty complex structures.
