Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent years, many big cities are building skyscrapers to accommodate a large number of people. Some people believe that this is the most suitable approach to provide sufficient residential areas. I completely agree with this claim, and in this essay, I will state reasons in favour of my viewpoint.
To commence with, one significant factor is that less trees will be cut down to make homes. It can be attributed to the fact that multi-storey apartments can facilitate a huge number of people in terms of providing a providing accomodation, so it will limit the clearing of green spaces to construct houses. For instance, a city having various job opportunities may experience a surge in population, and tall buildings can provide home for this increasing number.
Another positive influence of constructing skyscrapers is that it will prevent the congestion of cities. It is particularly important because many large cities become congested while trying to provide shelter to more people, but heighted residental apartments cover less space. Therefore, roads will become more spacious, and the possibility of road accidents can be reduced in this way.
On the contrary, opponents believe that residents of tall apartment blocks are at higher risk of getting influenced from natural disastors. This means that inhabitants of top floors may not get enough time to reach safe locations. One example is Earthquake which cause huge damage to tall buildings, and it can be life threatening for the people living there.
Although there are some risks associated with high apartments, from my perspective, there are more benefits for big cities such as protecting green spaces, accommodating more people and reducing congestion of roads.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including protecting green spaces and accommodating population growth, and you acknowledge a counterargument about disaster risks. This addresses the task, but the reasons are not equally developed: the point about reducing congestion is asserted rather than clearly linked to building upwards, and the earthquake example is brief and does not explain how this concern affects your overall judgement. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms behind each benefit and weigh the risks against them more explicitly. The response already has a clear stance and relevant support; fuller development and more precise reasoning would make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a counterargument, and a conclusion. Paragraphs follow a logical sequence, and signposts such as “To commence with,” “Another positive influence,” and “On the contrary” help readers follow the argument. The conclusion also returns to the main position. Some linking is rather formulaic, however, and connections within paragraphs could be clearer. For example, the claim that tall buildings prevent congestion moves quickly to more spacious roads and fewer accidents without explaining the link between housing density and road space. Use transitions more selectively and add explicit reasoning between claims, so progression feels less like a list of points and more like a connected argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “accommodate,” “population,” “congestion,” and “natural disasters,” and the main ideas remain understandable. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “significant factor” and “surge in population.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “heighted residential apartments” is not a natural expression, “getting influenced from natural disasters” is imprecise, and “provide a providing accommodation” repeats the same idea. Spelling errors such as “accomodation,” “residental,” and “disastors” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations and proofread spelling; this will make your vocabulary more flexible and convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “because” and “while,” and most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “many big cities are building” would be more accurate as “many big cities have been building” in this context, while “a city … may experience … and tall buildings can provide” shifts between singular and plural reference. In “Earthquake which cause huge damage,” the article and verb agreement need correction (“an earthquake, which causes…”). The phrase “a providing providing” also disrupts the sentence structure. Continue using complex sentences, but check tense, agreement, articles, and sentence construction carefully to improve consistency.
