Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the contemporary era, population has been increased dramatically, so the government build high-rise storey buildings especially in crowded areas such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Hong-kong. Therefore, I strongly believe that enough homes provide by to build tall apartment blocks in large cities; however, there are some cons and prons.
The main advantage of tall apartment buildings is that they allow cities to accommodate a large number of people on a limited amount of land. This is particularly important in densely populated cities where land areas are too much expensive. Instead of expanding living areas toward farmland and forest, the governement suggest to build high-rise buildings for the accomodations and also builds gardens and other contemporary facilities such as gym, swimming pool and playing area. For instance, Mumbai has 40 storey residential building, where thounds of people live in limited land with all facilities. Furthermore, high-rise developments can be located close to public transport, schools and workplaces, reducing commuting distances and traffic congestion. Another significant benefit is that large apartment complex can make with contemporary facilities such as smart electricity, water supply, solar panels and waste collection.
On the flip side, elying entirely on tall buildings could create several problems. Excessive population density may lead to overcrowding, traffic congestion and pressure on public services. There is no excessive space for green areas and reduce sense of community.
To recapitulate, I largely agree that tall apartment blocks are one of the most effective ways to provide housing in large cities, because they use land efficiently and can support better infrastructure.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you strongly support tall apartment blocks, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including efficient land use, access to transport and services, and the possibility of providing shared facilities. The Mumbai example also helps make the argument more concrete. The response addresses both the benefits and drawbacks, but these are not developed equally: the advantages receive several explanations, while the disadvantages are briefly listed, with little explanation of how density affects green space or community life. To strengthen the response, explain and support this counterpoint, then make clearer why the benefits outweigh it. This would make the discussion more fully developed while retaining your clear position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “On the flip side,” and “To recapitulate” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the opening sentence’s “Therefore” does not clearly follow from the preceding point. The drawbacks paragraph is also very short, so the shift from detailed advantages to a brief list makes the development uneven. Improve cohesion by linking each example directly to the claim it supports and by using clearer referencing between sentences. Developing the counterargument would also create a more balanced progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “densely populated,” “commuting distances,” “traffic congestion,” and “public services.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and attempts such as “accommodate” and “infrastructure” show some ambition. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling sometimes make the writing less natural: “land areas are too much expensive,” “for the accomodations,” and “el ying entirely” (intended as “relying”) are examples. “Cons and prons” is also informal and misspelled, while “contemporary facilities” is repeated without much precision. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “land is prohibitively expensive” and “residential accommodation,” and proofread spelling carefully. This would make your vocabulary more precise and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrastive structure with “however” and a sentence beginning “Instead of expanding…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “population has been increased” uses an incorrect verb form, and “the government build” does not match the intended tense. In “enough homes provide by to build,” the passive construction is incomplete; a correct version would be “enough homes can be provided by building…”. There are also problems with agreement and sentence construction in “large apartment complex can make” and “There is no excessive space… and reduce sense of community.” Practise accurate passive forms, subject–verb agreement, and parallel structures, then check each sentence for a complete, correctly connected clause.
