Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's world the population is increasing rapidly and people moving to cities so the best way to provide enough homes in big cities is to build tall apartment buildings. I strongly agree with the view because people moving to urban cities and population is increasing signficantly in cities. In urban area people have many facilities like education and healthcare system.

One major advantage of tall apartments blocks is that they can provide a large number of homes in a relatively small area. Land in major cities is often limited and extremely expensive, so constructing houses over a wide area may not be practical. by building upwards, developers can accommodate many families without using large amount of land. For example, a single high-rise building can contain hundreds of apartments on a small piece of land. As a result, more people can live close to employment centres, schools and other essential services, while urban land can be used more efficiently.

However, high rise housing alone cannot solve every problems associated with urban growth. Large apartments blocks need suitable infrastructure and public services, such as roads, electricity, water supplies, school, and transport systems. If these facilities are not developed at the same time, overcrowding and pressure on public services may increase. For instance, a neighbourhood with hundreds of new residents may experience severe traffic congestion if public transport and roads are not expanded. Therefore, governments should combine high-rise development with proper urban planning and investments in infrastructure.

In conclusion, I largerly agree that tall apartments blocks are an affective way to provide enough housing in large cities because they allow many people to live in a limited area. However, this approach should be combined with adequate infrastructure and careful urban planning to ensure that city life remains safe and comfortable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that building upwards is an effective response to housing demand. You support this with relevant reasoning about limited, expensive land and explain how high-rises can place residents near jobs and services. The counterpoint about infrastructure also adds balance, and your conclusion restates your view while recognising the need for planning. This covers the task well, but some parts are developed more fully than others: the opening claim about population growth and urban facilities is asserted rather than explained, and the infrastructure paragraph focuses on risks without exploring how these might limit reliance on tall blocks. Develop these points with a specific example or clearer explanation to make the argument more consistently extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the benefits, a contrasting paragraph on infrastructure, and a conclusion. The progression from the land-efficiency argument to the need for supporting services is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “One major advantage,” “However,” “For instance,” and “Therefore” help signal the relationships between ideas. To make the organisation more flexible and less formulaic, connect some sentences through clearer referencing rather than relying mainly on explicit signposts. For example, “these facilities” refers back to several services, but the relationship could be made more precise. The opening also moves quickly from population growth to urban facilities without showing how the latter supports the main argument. A clearer link there would strengthen progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “high-rise building,” “employment centres,” “urban planning,” “infrastructure,” and “traffic congestion.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and some phrases show an attempt to be precise, such as “accommodate many families” and “used more efficiently.” However, there are several word-choice, collocation, and spelling slips that limit precision: “apartments blocks” is not the natural plural form, “affective” appears where “effective” is intended, and “largerly” is misspelled. “Urban cities” is also redundant. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; this would help you use your topic vocabulary with greater control while retaining the clear meaning of the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional sentence (“If these facilities are not developed at the same time…”) and a reason clause introduced by “because.” Most sentences are understandable, and the errors do not prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical problems remain, however. The opening has an incomplete construction in “the population is increasing rapidly and people moving to cities”; use a finite verb, such as “people are moving.” There are also agreement and article/plural issues in “every problems” and “a large number of homes … without using large amount of land.” Capitalisation after the full stop in “by building upwards” should be corrected. Review sentence completeness, agreement, and articles to improve accuracy.
