Student answer (Band 5.5)

The best way to come up with adequate number of homes in big cities is quite difficult. Aparently building tall apartment blocks are the only ways in which things can be achieved. I agree with this because it has lot of advantages both in scocial and economic vice.

If we are considering to build or provide accomodation for people in large cities, building a safe and sound community is the first priority. Lets take Chennai for example, if are building tall apartment blocks in city like chennai, its easy for people to live in peace knowing they are not alone and help can come in few seconds, when compared to individual villas. Advantages of tall buildings is increased number of houses which by default means people from different profession so the contact of the people improves, they get to know how evey other sector functions and also one will be helpful to the other, they dont have to depend on a external person from outside the community. Scenary vice also it will be mesmorising to see the city from tall buildings.

Instead of wasting the lands on individual villas and houses, those lands can be converted into usefull common places like parks and play areas which will be benificial for the commons. By this we can build community in one side and leave the greenary undisturbed on the other. This gives a balances way of living instead of occupying the whole city and changing it into concrete forest which cant be escaped.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes, and you give relevant reasons, including community support and preserving land for parks. The Chennai example helps make the first point more concrete. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that residents can get help “in few seconds” and that people from different professions will support one another would benefit from a specific explanation or example. The scenic view is also a less persuasive reason for increasing housing supply. Develop the strongest points further and briefly acknowledge a limitation or alternative, such as the need for good design and shared facilities, to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your view, followed by paragraphs on community benefits and land use. Ideas generally follow a sensible order, and linking phrases such as “Instead of” and “By this” help show relationships. However, some connections are unclear or mechanical. The long sentence beginning “Advantages of tall buildings” combines several separate claims, making the progression difficult to follow. References such as “this” in “This gives a balances way of living” are also not fully precise. Use clearer topic sentences, divide the long sentence into shorter units, and make each paragraph develop one main reason with an explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “individual villas,” “parks,” and “concrete forest,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range and control are limited by repeated general wording and several inaccurate or misspelled expressions. Examples include “adequate number of homes,” “social and economic vice,” “Scenary vice,” and “usefull common places”; these choices make parts of the argument less clear or natural. Aim for more precise housing and urban-planning vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations carefully. Replacing informal or unclear phrases with expressions such as “housing capacity” and “green spaces” would make the discussion more fluent and appropriately academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional phrasing such as “if … building tall apartment blocks” and a contrast introduced by “Instead of.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some sentence structures and agreement patterns are inaccurate. For example, “building tall apartment blocks are the only ways” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “if are building” is missing a subject. In “Advantages of tall buildings is,” the plural subject also needs a plural verb. Articles and sentence boundaries need attention as well, particularly in the long sentence about residents’ professions. Practise building complete clauses with clear subjects and verbs, then proofread agreement, articles, and punctuation.
