Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The most beneficial way to provide sufficient homes in huge urban cities is to build large building blocks. I totally agree with this statement because systematic areas can be built for essential needs of all individuals, leading to better space optimization and improved environmental sustainability.

When we think of huge buildings, the first thing that comes to our minds is how the people have compromised their luxuries for such apartments. Contrary to this idea is the fact that there are some well-planned structured buildings established in a way that does not reduce the size or space that people call homes. For instance, there are various huge flats built in cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad that are much larger in size as compared to bungalow-type houses. This way people living in such apartments can experience higher comfort than those living in a small cottage. Moreover, overpopulation, rise of poverty and the availability of lesser lands is noticeable nowadays. Building engineered homes with proper utilities will prove to be a good option in the future. The reason for this idea is that more people will be able to live at a compacted land without sacrificing their needs.

Likewise, the piece of land left after the planned construction of buildings can help in creating highly improvised societies along with important resources nearby like gyms, hospitals, cafes, swimming pools, parks, etc. The people with poor financial conditions can afford such apartments at subsidized rates as this will become quite common and available for them. So, a win-win situation can be created by implementing such plans. Moreover, environmental-friendly practices like planting more trees in the leftover places, recycling materials and waste management can be encouraged more efficiently. For instance, in scattered houses, there are chances of increased litters. The municipal corporations can better perform their duties at places like these leading to overall satisfaction of people.

To conclude, I believe that building tall apartment blocks will combat the problem of overpopulation, poverty as well as environmental degradation in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you fully support tall apartment blocks as a way to address housing pressure. You give relevant reasons, including making better use of limited land, providing shared facilities, and enabling environmental measures, and the examples of Mumbai and Hyderabad help illustrate your point. This covers the task well, but some claims are asserted rather than sufficiently explained. For example, the suggestion that apartments will be affordable at subsidized rates needs a clearer link to how building tall blocks would make this happen. The comparison with bungalow-type homes is also broad and not fully substantiated. Develop each main reason with a more specific explanation or example to make the argument more convincing and consistently well supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present supporting reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress from land efficiency to shared facilities and environmental benefits. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Likewise,” and “To conclude” help guide the reader, and paragraphing is appropriate. At times, however, the connections between claims are not fully clear. For instance, the move from shared amenities to subsidized housing is abrupt, and “For instance” introduces littering without clearly showing how this supports the comparison with scattered houses. Some transitions also feel formulaic. Make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit, and use referencing carefully so that phrases such as “places like these” have an unmistakable antecedent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “space optimization,” “overpopulation,” “environmental sustainability,” and “waste management.” These choices show an effort to use less common and topic-specific language, and your meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “huge urban cities” is redundant, “compacted land” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “highly improvised societies” is not an appropriate phrase for planned residential communities. “Increased litters” is also an awkward use of the noun. Aim for natural collocations and check whether a less familiar word conveys your intended meaning; precise, conventional phrasing will make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “buildings established in a way that does not reduce…” and a conditional structure in “if…,” alongside longer sentences explaining causes and effects. Most sentences remain understandable, and punctuation generally supports the meaning. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, particularly in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “The reason for this idea is that more people will be able to live at a compacted land” has an awkward prepositional pattern, while “The people with poor financial conditions can afford…” uses an unnecessarily definite article and an unclear noun phrase. The opening sentence also has a cumbersome structure. Review articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries, and simplify constructions when needed to maintain accuracy.
