Student answer (Band 6.5)
In order to provide enough residential homes to facilitate enough people, constructing tall buildings seems to be the best approach. I strongly agree with this statement and this essay shall discuss the reasons for this.
First and foremost reason is that apartments can accomodate larger number of residents as it has different floors and each floor could provide more than two apartments depending on the area. People from different areas migrate to big cities in order to seek employement or education which results in less availability of homes. On the other hand, one story houses take so much space as compare to tall buildings. In Manchester, over the last decade a sharp rise in number of tall buildings has been witnessed as large number of people from different cities and countries have resided in the city, consequently providing homes to more people.
In addition, parks and gardens are so important for any city as they keep the environment fresh. If residential areas would cover most of the area there will be decline in greenery, hence the best approach is to construct tall buildings in order to accomodate more people and keep the city green. For instance, huge amount of tall buildings are constructed in Newyork city while keeping the parks and gardens preserved. In future, the idea of taller buildings for residential purposes will significantly prevail.
In conclusion, taller buildings saves up space as they provide more area for plants and trees while facilitating greater number of residents by providing them homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I strongly agree”) and remains consistent, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons: high-rise housing can accommodate more residents on less land, while preserving space for parks. The Manchester and New York examples also help illustrate your points. This meets the task well, but development is uneven: the first reason is explained more fully, whereas the claim that tall buildings keep cities green is asserted rather than explored. The examples are broad and do not show specific evidence or explain how planning decisions preserve green space. To strengthen the response further, develop this second argument and consider a limitation or condition, such as the need for adequate infrastructure and well-designed public spaces.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate supporting reasons, and a conclusion restates the position. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “First and foremost,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” make the stages easy to follow. Some cohesion is a little mechanical, however, because paragraphs rely heavily on explicit signposting rather than links between ideas. The sentence beginning “People from different areas migrate…” could connect more directly to the point about housing demand, and “On the other hand” signals contrast where a more precise comparison would be clearer. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer referencing to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “residential,” “migrate,” “availability,” “greenery,” and “residential purposes,” so the main ideas are communicated clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a sharp rise … has been witnessed.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “facilitate enough people” does not naturally express providing housing, and “resided in the city” is less suitable for describing people moving there. Spelling errors such as “accomodate,” “employement,” and “Newyork” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise housing and urban-planning vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional construction (“If residential areas would cover most of the area…”) and clauses linked with “as” and “while.” Meaning remains clear overall, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “First and foremost reason” needs an article, “a larger number” needs an article, and “taller buildings saves up space” has a subject–verb agreement error. The conditional sentence would be more accurate as “If residential areas covered most of the land, greenery would decline.” There are also issues with plural and article use in phrases such as “a decline in greenery” and “a large number of people.” Review agreement, articles, and conditional patterns while continuing to vary sentence structures.
