Student answer (Band 6.5)
The rapid growth of urban population has created a serious shortage of housing in many large cities. Building of tall apartment blocks are the best way to equip enough homes in large cities. I agree with this view because high rise buildings can accommodate more people while using limited urban land effeciently.
Tall apartment buildings can provide housing for a large number of individuals in a relatively small area. Land in major cities is often limited and extremely expensive, so constructing people houses requires a considerable amount of space. In contrast, high rise buildings allow hundreds of families to live vertically on the same piece of land. For example, a single 20 storey apartement bulding can provide homes for hundreds of residents, whereas the same area occupied by seprate houses would accommodate far fewer people. Therefore, building upwards is an effective way to deal with increasing housing demand.
Another important advantage is that high rise housing can help cities use their infrastructure more effeciently. Apartment blocks can be constructed near public transport, schools, hospitals, and shopping centers, making these facilities easily accessable to residents. This can reduce the need for long distance travel and help control urban expansion. For instance, if new apartment complexes are built near bus stations and workplaces, residents can commute more conveniently and cities can aviod spreading into surrounding rural areas. As a result, high rise development can support both housing needs and better urban planning.
In conclusion, I agree that building tall apartments blocks is the best way to provide sufficient housing in large cities. They can accommodate more people on limited land and allow cities to use existing infrastructure more efficiently.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I agree with this view”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central question with two relevant reasons: high-rise buildings accommodate more people on limited land, and locating them near services can support more efficient urban planning. The examples of a 20-storey building and apartments near bus stations help extend these points. This is a well-focused response with ideas supported by explanation. To develop the argument further, qualify the claim that tall blocks are the “best way” by acknowledging a limitation or briefly comparing them with another housing approach. Some claims, such as the benefits for infrastructure, are plausible but general; a more specific example would make the support more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear, effective structure: an introduction states your view, each body paragraph develops a separate reason, and the conclusion restates your position. Progression within the paragraphs is also logical, moving from the main claim to explanation and an example. Linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “For example,” and “As a result” help show relationships between ideas. This organisation is clear throughout. To make cohesion more flexible, avoid relying so heavily on explicit transitions and use more precise referencing to connect ideas. For instance, the second body paragraph could link its discussion of nearby facilities more directly to the earlier point about limited land, rather than presenting infrastructure as a separate benefit without a clear comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “housing shortage,” “urban land,” “high rise buildings,” “infrastructure,” and “urban expansion.” These choices make the argument easy to follow, and phrases such as “accommodate more people” and “control urban expansion” suit the topic. However, some spelling errors and imprecise or awkward word choices limit the accuracy of the vocabulary: “effeciently,” “apartement,” “accessable,” and “aviod” appear in the response, while “equip enough homes” is not a natural collocation. There is also some repetition of “high rise buildings” and “housing.” Aim to check spelling carefully and use more precise alternatives, while retaining the clear, relevant vocabulary you already demonstrate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if new apartment complexes are built” and a contrast structure with “whereas.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the paragraph-level sentence patterns are varied enough to support the explanation. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Building of tall apartment blocks are” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an awkward noun phrase; “constructing people houses” has an incorrect possessive structure; and “tall apartments blocks” uses an incorrect plural form. Punctuation spacing is also inconsistent, as in “cities.They.” Review agreement, articles and noun phrases, and proofread sentence boundaries. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the control already shown.
