Student answer (Band 6.0)
A lot of people believe that in order to make houses more available to everyone in large cities the best solution is to invest in tall apatment blocks. Personally, i agree with this statement because large cities have big a population and a lot of homeless people so providing houses will fix one of the main issues in cities around the world.
Developing vertical residential buildings provides high-density houcing within limited urban space. In other words, by using apartement blocks cities can accommodate thousands of residents on minimal geographic footprint that would otherwise only support a few single-family houses.
This could help cities be organized in a way where parts are specific for residentials and housing and the saved space could be used for essential community infrastructure. this land could be used to construct commercial zones, Cafés and restaurants and green spaces which generates local employement. For exemple, singapore has successfully implemented this model of building tall apartement buildings which frees up more space for other important facilities which allows millions of people to live more comfortably. In conclusion while apartment buildings can sometimes lead to overcrowding in city centers, especially when thousands of residents are concentrated into a single vertical block, local utilities such as water supply and sewage face heavy pressure and also the high density of people could lead to congestion in public transport but these problems could be fixed with good policy and evolving technology. so i agree that they are the best way to provide housing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening and conclusion: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide housing. You give relevant reasons, including making efficient use of limited urban land and freeing space for community facilities, and the Singapore example helps illustrate the proposal. You also acknowledge drawbacks such as pressure on utilities and public transport, then explain that policy and technology could address them. This covers the task well, while some ideas remain less fully developed: for example, the claim that housing will address homelessness is asserted rather than explained, and the Singapore example lacks a specific detail showing how the model works. More precise support and fuller explanation would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure: it introduces your view, explains the land-use benefit, develops a further benefit with an example, and concludes by considering disadvantages. However, progression between ideas is not always clear. The sentence beginning “This could help cities be organized” does not clearly identify what “This” refers to, and the final paragraph combines several drawbacks, a response to them, and your conclusion in one long sequence. Linking phrases such as “In other words” and “For example” are useful, but some connections feel mechanical or are not supported by clear paragraphing. Separate the counterargument and conclusion, and make each paragraph develop one main point with explicit links between claims and examples.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “high-density,” “urban space,” “community infrastructure,” “overcrowding,” and “public transport.” These choices show an attempt to discuss housing and city planning beyond basic terms. However, the range and control are uneven, with repeated use of general words such as “space,” “people,” and “important,” and several inaccurate or misspelled forms, including “apatment,” “houcing,” “apartement,” “residentials,” and “exemple.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “minimal geographic footprint” and “local utilities ... face heavy pressure.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, for example “a small land area” and “place pressure on water and sewage systems.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “space ... that would otherwise only support” and a concession beginning “while apartment buildings can sometimes lead to overcrowding.” These structures help express relationships between ideas, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, some sentences are overloaded, particularly the final one, where several clauses are joined without clear punctuation. There are also errors in sentence boundaries and capitalization: “this land” and “so i agree” begin sentences with lowercase letters, while the opening uses “i” instead of “I.” Review comma use and divide long sentences into shorter, controlled units. More consistent control of clause structure and punctuation would make your argument easier to follow.
